Debating about a new car.....
So gas prices are makin bronco billy really really expensive these days unfortunately........and that puts me in a bind kinda
i CAN get 18 out of the bronco but i'm gonna have to do quite a bit of work as right now i'm getting about 10 maximum. so the question is should i get a new car or not.....
if i was gonna get a new one these are what i'm looking at.....
Land Rover Disco 2 (98-00)
97-00 Audi A4 or A6 with either the 1.2 turbo or the 2.8 V6
97-00 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
97-00 Volkswagen Jetta or Passat with a different engine.
lookin at al of them with 100,000 miles or so so they're all like 4-7k
gettin a lil above my range....
2000 Ford Excursion Diesel.......but i could run it on veggie oil soooooooo
very torn though cuz i love my bronco to death......but she is gettin old and the rust is breaking my heart for one.....i would just fix the bronco but i don't have time or a place at the moment to do the work myself unfortunately and i quite frankly don't trust anyone to work on my cars anymore.
so who's got opinions?Last edited by RuhlFreak55; 07-10-2008 at 05:49 PM.

oh and we've already put quite a bit of money into bronco billy in the last 2 years or so......new tranny.....front end just pretty much rebuilt......new windshield 2 weeks ago.......problem with the gas mileage is most likely that i have a broken off header bolt from when i did the headers 3 or so years ago.

any issues with it? gas mileage is very good on it from what i was seeing and if you get a quatro i'd be able to go places in the snow.......that's my worst fear about not havin a truck or suv.....not being able to drive when it snows....doesn't snow often in missouri though i guess

I'll add one of my wips to the mix:
1997 Toyota Tacoma 4x4, 20+ MPG. Upwards of 30 if I drive very conservatively.

Do not buy the discovery. If you go to the forum for land rover disc nothing but problems. Be very care full with the discovery. I use to have one back in africa. I actually managed to flip it lol.

I'd rather be caught riding a scooter over a honda hatchback
although i know a guy that had a really fast one. He had a big ass honda motor in it (h22) with a turbo the size of your head. That thing was scary fast...

Why does everyone think they need 4 wheel drive? I drive in the snow frequently, I go on weekend ski trips like every weekend in the winter, and it snows a moderate amount in CT. FWD is usually sufficent as long as you have some kind of traction control that acts as a limited slip differential. You'll save a lot on gas milage even over a car with all wheel drive. Driving in the snow is about knowing how to drive in the snow. I swear on the way to northern Vermont in a snow storm all I see is SUV's in the ditch.

Do you mean 18k? Why would somebody pay that much for a 225k mile 93' bronco? $1800?

if you guys are talking about what i can get out of the bronco? yea MPG......timing bump....cold air intake.......bassani y pipe......and some other mods and you can get 18mpg out of the 351W in there......granted i think mine would have to be rebuilt to achieve that but if i didn't buy a new car i could rebuild it

530D if ye have it in America. 210bhp with about 310lb/ft of torque plenty of poke. The Land Rovers are good but are prone to breaking. Mainly turbos shitting themselves.
