Best Takedown Art?
What do you think the best takedown art is?
It seems like the top two are wrestling and judo.
If wrestling, what style? folk, freestyle, or greco roman??
And this is from a street fight perspective. Not in a ring, cage, etc...Last edited by xlxBigSexyxlx; 02-15-2009 at 08:51 PM.

I say Judo
-
I'm gonna have to go with Aikido
it's very similar to judo, but without the breaks (just holds)

freestyle wrestling or judo. I think both are much better than akido.

Judo or Wrestling
-
We are talking takedowns here. Not self defense street fight Krav Maga stuff.
How does Judo compare to Wrestling? I mean, why would one choose to do one over the other?
Also, whats the difference between folk and freestyle? I can't really find freestyle lessons around here, but folk is everywhere.

for solely takedowns I'd agree either GR or freestyle...so much of it is centered on the takedown/takedown defense.../(single and double legs, sprawling)
for throws I'd say Judo or AikidoLast edited by SampsonandDelilah; 02-15-2009 at 11:10 PM.

folk is high school and college wrestling. freestyle is a lot cooler, where you get rewarded for bigger takedowns (5pt takedowns, then 3, and 1pt ones) rules are a lot different too.
it really shouldn't be hard to find freestyle unless you live in the middle of no where. two of my friends from hs are national champs in both freestyle and greco (amazing all around wrestlers)
judo is pretty different, i'd say more like greco where its throws compared to takedowns on the legs, although freestyle is a lot of throws too

IMHO, wrestling...freestyle
wrestlers are also some of the hardest to take down...the sprawl is second nature.

Wrestling dominates over judo in my opinion. Judo has some amazing sweeps and throws but my money is on pure wrestling.

Are you looking to take someone down?
-
lol, nah.
I just think it would be cool to be in total control, and just slam people.

If someone is actually skilled in Sambo, wrestling, Judo, etc. they are pretty much going to be able to do what they want to most people is the bottom line.

freestyle wrestling gets my vote for sure.... I would almost say it is a fact, but of course I can't do that..

wrestling definately. Judo and akido is alot of power moves that relies on the other person making moves. Wrestling is about speed / power / form to get the person down. Had both types try to take me down. I had problems stopping a college wrestler...the judo guy was laughable.

Wrestling. freestyle. not greco. PERIOD. No doubt AT ALL. And im into NEITHER. The gym i train at is all collegiate/national level wrestlers and holllyyy shittt. Takedown clinic!

Judo is too detail oriented and requires ridiculous amounts of practice to execute effecticely. I'd say for takedowns freestyle wrestling, sambo, or rugby.
