Just for the record, I don't actually advocate laying the smack down on children.

Having said that, I think it is atrocious how some children nowadays treat their parents. I do strongly believe that the Gates of Heaven are closed to those who disrespect their parents. The Quran declares:

"Your Lord has decreed that you serve none but Him, and that you be good towards your parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them even 'ugh' nor rebuke them, but instead address them with terms of honor. And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: 'My Lord! bestow on them Your Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.'" (Quran, 17:23-24)

The term "ugh" is the least sign of irritation. So if it is forbidden to even say "ugh", then surely what is greater than that is also forbidden and leads to hell-fire.

We need to ingrain this into our children, instead of raising children watching television shows and sit-coms where it is the norm to disrespect parents.

But I think that this sort of relationship is not fostered through beating, but rather through consistent and proper parenting.

I don't have to lay hands on my children very often. I have excellent children. All honor roll and VERY well behaved in all settings. I could not be happier with them. I do not believe that you need to use force with a child very often, but there is a place for it if you can execute it with true love.

Having said that, I brought the little brats into this world....;-P
