I got my Toshiba from Wal-Mart for under $500 before taxes. Great computer . Only problem is the battery life is 1 1/2 hours. Not a problem for me. But could present a problem for others.

whats up bro! I almost lost all of my info last night showing my wife the vids from mtv and kanye west when I opened up a site and my comp got infected. I ran a sys rec and for about 20 min I thought I lost everything. I started to cry like a 2 yr old. I had pics for about 7 years from my wife and I from when we first met, etc....Needles to say I found everything, thank God!!!
Anyways, what do I look for as far as speed? Ill probably keep this in my office at home for a whil before I decide to start buying extra batteries and stuff. Its just time to upgrade. I want the fastest for the cheapest, ya know?

What type of memory does your toshiba have? I assume you have dsl so its gotta be fast??

Buy yourself a USB external harddrive and dump all your files that you need to that for now until you find a new PC.

    go to tigerdirect.com

they have some good deals if you are willing to do the online bit. I just built my dad a quad core i& with 8 gig ram , 1 gig sli graphix card, and 1 tb hd for about 650. If you are willing to go with dual core instead of core 2 duo ...you can get some great prices.

I think 1 1/2-2 hours is pretty much standard battery life for all laptops.

But if you're looking to just surf the internet you really don't need a fast computer at all. I mean a shitty pentium d would be more then suffice imo.

I had to splurge for a core2duo e7400 and the thing is wicked fast but I also do music production which kills cpu, couldnt see you needing anything remotely comparable to that.

There is always deals on newegg. They just had 200 off on a lap top so it was 399 with free shipping for a week.

Just get something that has 2 processors. atleast 200 gig hdd, and 3gig ram. if its running 32 bit. if you get 64 bit make sure it has 4 gig.

Thats pretty standard for most lap tops now. At best buy they have pretty much that what i just explained for 479 before taxes. I believe its a dell.

    neways hope this helps

Hazard - I'm absolutely computer iliterate but how would I go about getting wireless internet. My internet connection to my laptop is through my cable. Any suggestions on a wireless router and where to get it? I probably won't be any farther then 70 ft from the router at anytime. It's a pain in the ass not being able to just bring my laptop anywhere around my place, I'm stuck at my desk..lol..

    Thanks
