Smith machine or power rack. What would you choose and why ?
I have now got an area for me to train at home but space is a little tight. I am about to buy a few pieces of kit. I am stuck in between two pieces . I only have room for one. I train mostly myself as my friends are not dedicated enough. Because of this I was thinking of a good quality smith machine. This piece of equipment I love for millitary press ,squats, shrugs ect and I would say that it is pretty safe if I am training myself. Now the other piece I was thinking of was a power rack. The reason I was thinking of the power rack is,after a few year's of browsing this forum and reading countless threads, I think it is essential to use a piece of equipment that allow's me to use my stabalizing muscle's which I think would be better. I am beginning to rabbit on here so I was just wondering what you would choose between the two and why ? Thanks

POWER RACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can set bars on side as a safety net !
Smith machine does very little for core muscles .
I suggest hitting the gym for afternoon .
See all possibilities .
I think power rack can be used for every exercise .
a good smith will cost a bunch more IMO
Good luck

Gotta have the power rack, with the safety bars on the side I workout on my own at home, I squat 470 and bench 350 without anyone around. I love my home gym.

Power rack with no comparison.... You can do everything in a power rack that you can do in a smith machine, with a million more and a much better isolation. For home gyms a power rack/cage is a must for any serious lifter. Check my profile, i have a power rack with a stack and I can do anything at home that i can do at a gym.

Rack but I'm a powerlifter/strongman, a smith has no place in my training.

Power rack, because machines are for women and old people. The only thing I use machines for is to hold my water bottle.
