    BS Traffic Ticket!

So on Labor Day I was driving to get a printer @ Staples about 45 mins away from where I live. On my way back I went through a YELLOW light. I was under the speed limit and tapped my breaks as I went through. I stop about a half a mile up the road to get gas. I'm pumping gas and this asshole and his wife pull up next to me. He points his finger @ me (you might as well spit on me kus i HATE pointing) and says " IF YOU EVER RUN A LIGHT LIKE THAT AGAIN I WILL CALL THE LAW" ME: #1 Don't point @ me...#2 Your not my fvcking father so piss off bud.. Asshole: Ok I'll call the law then" Me: "Take down my plate number and call them you d1ckhead." I pull outta the gas station and this pr1ck follows me for 40mins and then has two State Troopers follow me into my town off the interstate. END of story that day....Tuesday (next day) I get a call from the Master Sergent and he asks if we can meet. I tell him xctally what you just read. He asks me if I used my breaks when I went through the YELLOW light and I told him i tapped them. M.S. then told me that the complaintant also mentioned that in hiw WRITTEN STATEMENT! So he told me he would turn the report over to the States Attorney and if the S.A. tells him to write me a ticket he will send it to me in the mail. Friday comes and I have a ticket in the mail. Met with the lawyer today. He said " it sounds like the cop has a hard on for you, but I can relieve that for you for $500" You guys think its worth it ?

    (sorry 4 the long read)

How much is the ticket for? I would jsut attend court on your own and challange the evidence. If the guy doesnt show it will automatically be dropped and even if he does show the judge very well may throw the ticket out anyways.

It's a $75 ticket. I don't want to pay it though because the jobs I'm applying for require a clean driving record. The complainant will show, I'm sure of it. He followed me 45mins on Labor Day lol.

Why did you even say you went through the yellow ? You should have denied the entire thing.

Just attend court yourself and tell the judge your side of the story. Just show up looking very clean and professional in a nice suit. You should be able to get it dropped.

Because I figured the cop would laugh it off and think it was as ridiculous as I did. Maybe just tell me to chill out. I wanted to be as honest with them as possible about the dumb situation.

True. If I would have just been a prick from the start I would have told the cop I was to busy and to just send me a ticket if need be then go from there. Guess I learned my lesson. I'm just gonna pay the 5 hundo and walk in there with a lawyer.....Thought about requesting a Trial by Jury lol..

The law says that you must make an effort to slow down through the Yellow Light (weird to me since one would be in the intersection longer). I was not even speeding so I only tapped my breaks and this is where the infraction lies. It's splitting hair if you ask me....My lawyer is correct. The cop has a hard on for me..I'm guessing that the d1ck who followed me is a friend/family member or even in law enforcement himself.

Evidently the person that followed you was a retired cop or knows a cop. Fight it and ask for the 'issuing officer' be present to explain what he witnessed.

Side note. Be very respectful every chance you get. If you an ass, they wont care if you are right or wrong.

On top of this, it becomes a jurisdictional issue. You can challenge whether he had jurisdiction. Also, how we typically fight those kind of complaints against officers in the state of New Jersey is as follows. In this state, you can press charges and issue citations against any other private citizen that you wish. You just need to know their name and address, and then know the name/title/code of the law that you want to press against them. Usually in other states only the prosecutor can do this. So, you go to the courthouse (if this is permissible in your state) and file the same charges against him that he has alleged against you. I would look up what the title/code is for following too closely/tailgating a vehicle, and press those charges against him. This is used as a bargaining chip, and usually the other side will drop charges to avoid the headache of going through with it.

Your admission over the phone sucks, but not the end of the world. You can say you don't recall the circumstances, and ask for a videotape or picture of you actually going through the yellow. You can also get really dirty, run a background check on the complainant and find out if they have any outstanding tax liens, debts, etc, and f**k with his life in many ways.

I'd request a trial by jury honestly.

My girl got in a car accident and was hurt in it. A guy parked his 3/4 ton cargo van past a sign that says "no parking here to corner". If you park past it, you can't see on comming traffic.

When she was slowly pulling out, she was unable to see, and a car came by and clipped her car.

The cause of the accident was the van parked, so I took a picture, and video with my phone, but was nice to the officer.

The owner of the van never got a ticket.

When we went to court, I was not allowed to talk. The magistrate actually yelled at me, because I'm not allowed to prepare a case, because I'm not an attorney.

They go exactly by what the law states. She was at fault because she pulled into traffic with a right away. It does not matter if the other driver was not paying attention or there was a van illegally parked. Apparently the parking signs are just decoration.

The laws are written very strait forward, and tend not to be in our favors for citations, only criminal charges. The circumstances, and how much sense they make are not taken into account.

I always laugh at stories like this. IF you just put away your pride and just give them the answer you want you could have avoided the whole thing. Instead of arguing with the guy you could have just said sorry in a sorry manner even if you didn't mean it and avoided all this garbage you have to go through now. No doubt it's some bull what happened to you but this didn't have to happen.

If you didn't act like a dick you would have gotten off free, now you have to pay 500 dollars to a lawyer to protect your record because of your job.

Think of it as life or better yet "karma" teaching you a lesson, someone that took that kind of attitude probably has a shitty attitude in real life and this was life teaching ignorant cockheads their lesson. I think the fact that it was on you passing a yellow light makes it even that much more painful because basically life just shitted all over you

    Life 1 OP 0

Totally understand what your saying but I WILL NOT allow someone to try to reprimand m. I'm not the slightest bit upset about the ticket. In fact I'm glad that this happend in a way. I'm confident with the outcome and really don't mind spending $500 to laugh in the faces of a cop who wears his badge for a crown and some prick. With respect to what you are saying, you can eat shit your whole life and let people step on your head....Take the easiest way out in life...your choice bro lol...but me..nope. never gonna happen..Immortal..were you that guy following me ??? i would of stopped right there as soon as he was following me got out and beat the shit outa him then bailed out for $250 for simple battery would of been cheaper,
whos to say he isnt the reason why you ran the yellow light, he was tail gating you, thats why, you were afraid you would get rear ended so you couldnt stop, then he argued with you at that gas station that you were going to slow, then he followed you for 40mins still tailgating you, Tell the jury that, they will think hes nuts, WHERES THE PROOF?????
go file a restraining order on his ass, just bring that police report of him following you for 40 mins and tell the judge youve bumped into this ass 2 times already like hes stalking you, get that and youll win

    Googled this
Physical stalking is following someone, appearing at a person’s home or place of business, making harassing phone calls, leaving written messages or objects, or vandalizing one’s property.

Go pop 1 of your tires and file stalking charges
None follows someone for 40 mins over a yellow light that doesnt have mental problems

Here another trick, set a court date, that person who followed you has to give his side to try to prove you did it, now what you do is reschedule everytime he shows up, you can do this a hundred times, sooner or later hes not going to show up, then thats when you walk in to court

See bro guys like you are a dime a dozen, they think they always have to "prove themselves" or think if they don't take the aggressive path that makes them a "bitch".

Learn to pick your battles, all you had to say to that guy was "my fault I am in a bit of a emergency". Instead you went on all Rocky on the guy and now look where it got you, 500 dollars to "spit in the face of a cop", bro who honestly gets the last laugh? A cop that reports you while doing his job or you having to go pay money and get a laywer and take time out of your life to go to court and defend urself? I mean if thats what gets you off then so be it.

Just watch the attitude because one day it will bite you in the ass.

Let me tell you a story, one of my parent's friends was with his gf (he was a young guy) and they were at a bar, they leave the bar and get into the car and his gf is arugiging with him, during the simple arguement a guy in the parking lot comes up to the him and says "yo whats going on man?" and instead of trying to calm the situation down, he responds something along the lines of "Whats it you? Fvck off and mind your own business"

Now you wanna know the result?

The guy pulls out a gun and shoots my parent's friend dead in the parking lot with his gf sitting in the car.

So what did he achieve? He got killed instead of taking the low road and trying to defuse a situation.

You need to grow up man and realize not every battle is worth grinding your time over.

I think you are only allowed to re schedule it 3x and it has to be 24 hr notice but every state may be different. Yes that is a good trick because Im sure they will get tired of the game soon enough.

I never said I wanted to spit in his face lol. Just laugh when he is looking @ me. My Father was a police officer for many years and i have a lot of friends that are cops. They all agreed that this particular officer was splitting hairs on the ticket that he wrote me and was in the gray area of the law doing so. The issue is whether or not I deserved the ticket. I think that I am the victim in this particular situation not the state. This is a small town area and I am sure the complainant and the issuing officer are @ the very least acquaintances. I did nothing illegal when I was talking to this man, and if I get my head blown off like the man in your story then so be it; that's just life. Sir, shit happens. I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees. I appreciate your advices and will consider what you are proposing but will not likely adhere to it. Thanks for the concern.

The issue is whether the ticket is likely to stand in court based on members experiences. Thanks for all the responses fellas!

    My bad man,

It states that I "disobeyed a traffic control device"

Date/Time of course and a description of the weather "day/clear"

In the description of the offense the Officer did not mention that the traffic

light was yellow. Which would make one assume it was a red light if they were

    not to ask.

I got pulled over for running a yellow light. I was approaching the intersection, I saw it turned yellow...the guy behind me was to close I couldn’t see his license plate so I went through the light. Cop pulls me over gives me a ticket for "failure to stop at an amber light" I went to fight it in court. The cop said I had time to stop, I said I didnt. The Judge than said "the police officer has nothing to gain or lose by showing up so we are taking his word over yours" I than said "Well he does have something to gain, they get paid to show up to court" (living in Ontario they do) The judge than said, "thats not the point" and i had to pay..BS

well if thats what the ticket says it sounds like it would get dropped if you choose to fight it. But they know that most people work and it would cost them more to miss work 2-3 days to fight it then to just buck up and pay it.
sounds like your being taught a lesson for picking on a old man that day.
