I've been a fan of The Who for as long as I can remember and it ends up Pete Townshend gets nabbed by the cops for purchasing kiddy porn.

Doesn't make their music any less amazing, but that leaves such a bad taste in my mouth...

And now he claims he was "doing research"... he's a freakin musician, not a vice cop or even a journalist... gimme a break. Grrr.

Anyone actually believe that crap?

Devils advocate here.

A lot of musicians, actors, politicians, doctors, lawyers, business owners, moms, dads, whoever throw themselves in a cause against or for something outside of thier proffesion.

Now if in fact he is a pedophile, I think he should be punished to the maximum the law allows. I believe pedophiles and rapists to be the worst people on the planet, even with murderers taken into consideration.

Now it is possible that research was being conducted by him to help a case against kid porn. The case surrounding him is going to air whether or not he is affiliated with any activist groups that protest kid porn. If so than their is reasonable doubt that he in fact is a pedophile.
If it's made public that he has no affliation or history of speaking out against pedophiles and kid porn, well then he's in big trouble.

As far as I've heard from his side. He registered at site that advertised kid porn. He CLAIMS you cant fight the bad without knowing about it. True to an extent.

Well see, I happen to be quite cynical when it comes to things like this so my innitial response to this was -Fry'em. But consideration has to be taken for both sides of the argument. I think it's going to be really easy to figure out who he is from history and character.

Pheedno ... Well, I agree to a certain extent, but well... had he been an known activist against child abuse I would probably not have batted an eye... but this smells.

I agree you can't fight the bad without knowing about it... but well... how much do you really need to know about something like child pornography to want to combat it? In my book just knowing it exists is enough for me.

Besides him being a high profile personality I am sure all he had to do is walk into any child abuse protection agency or even New Scotland Yard and they could have shown him more than most normal people can handle to have him join the cause.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Thats the kicker. Unless he can show a specific target or specific cause on the subject he was fighting for(maybe bringing down a specific website), then thier is probably no reason for his actions.

It looks bad, and in all probability, hes guilty. Most people are in situations such as this when the margin for reasonable doubt is trimmed down to proving specifics that are either true or not and are easily interpreted.

I don't know. I am not going to say whether he is guilty or not. I kinda of believe the guy...I mean I sure as hell think all people who pray on innocent children should be cut the fuck up with razor blades and thrown in a pool of rubbing alcohol and then fed to the gators..and never shot...let them die a slow death....

But I think he was really trying to fight the cause...I guess we will find out later....

Pete Townshend was always a big musical influence for me, I'm not happy about this mess at all. No matter what his intentions were, he's pretty much fucked now.
