UK door supervisors
Morning ladies and gents just been sat here at work and heard on the radio they may be scrapping the door supervisor licensing system and the body governing this area ( the SiA) altogether.
Do you think that this will make it go back to the old ways where as the badge was issued by a local council or something more ridiculous will be put in place?
I personally feel that the sia has removed all the idiots from the doors and therefore produced a safer environment for people who want to go out and have a good evening with wives partners friends etc.
The removal of the governing body will surely bring back all the knuckle draggers who if you spill a drink take you to a back room and whoop some ass.
Any thoughts guys?
(Sorry to all the bros not in the UK)

no, removed violent offenders etc, you have a terrible opinion on doorstaff, its the doorstaff who create the safe enviroment and its the drunken know all assholes who create the havoc. many of us doormen have degrees etc and have great interpersonal skills. dont judge just because of what work place you encounter people

I would welcome the scrapping of the sia,the sia is run by people who have never been involved in doorwork and most of them havent any useful background in the licensing trade, they charge extortionate fees for nothing, they have had their own staff taking part in criminal record checks on applicants but no one ever did a crb check on their own staff the organisation is a joke, its just another quango set up by the labour party to provide jobs for the( boys). If i remember correctly it overshot its budget by 17million in its first year.It has not stopped criminals making money as the bigger companies are often run by frontmen. As for the nuckle draggers most had left the industry before the sia was even thought of.Are you saying every doorman that had an abh or common assault on their records were bullies? The fact is most doorstaff entering the proffesion now are wanna be,s they are nothing more than shirt fillers who think the fact they have a badge makes them fanny magnets but are often found looking for somewhere to hide when the shit hits the fan.I have been in the industry for 30yrs and still am 8 out of every 10 that apply to our company for a job dont cut it,they can have all the badges they want it dont give em bottle, brains or manners, ive got better trained dogs than most of them.Sorry but thats the way i see it,i not only have a small security company but have also been involved in the training industry as well and please believe me you can sit all the courses and get all the badges available but it does not make them doormen.

no problem mate. i agree with you on the need to weed out thugs, but we are all tarred with the one brush anyhow, in dublin its pretty tight and i havent worked with any bad guys yet to be honest. you just cant win with the public anyhow, the alcohol intoxicated idiot can never be wrong in his wisdom. i do the door 45-50hrs per week at the moment, its trying work.

I agree with you all £200 for a course £250 for a badge its extortion.
I currently work with a good team of bloke the majority are old school boys who have been around a while and are a little naughty when needs be the best thing is you know they got your back.
We have had a few 18-20 year olds who just want to fight and that's what they think the job is all about well we all know its not. It's a shame that we all get tarred by the same brush as we have some bloke on our team who have psychology degrees and can diffuse a potentially volatile situation with a few words and that is how it should be.
I'm sorry if this thread has caused any bad vibes with any ofv you in the trade it wasn't meant to be like that I love doing the job and van see myself doing it for many more years, I just wanted to see your views upon the scrappage of the SIA and the future of the industry we are passionate about.
Keep up the good work gents and stay safe
