Down and out for a while
I have not posted much the last few weeks. Ive been pretty busy and at the same time not busy.
I posted this 3 weeks ago in the recovery/rehab section.
As life would have it I am being thrown another curve ball that will interfere with my working out for a couple of weeks.
My Rt eye started to have a shadow a couple weeks ago and I mostly ignored it because it's my bad eye and it didnt bother me much. Last week it got worse. I went to pretty much 80% blind, large shadow that was like looking through cheese cloth.
Turns out I have a Retina Detachment. I just watched the Youtube video. Looks like fun... lol I just hope it is successful and I dont have to miss to much working out.

I read a lot of stories where people have problems after the surgery. I HOPE Im not one of them..
I have already had 6 surgeries on my right eye. 3 between ages 10-12 due to a piece of metal going through my right eye and lodging in the eye socket. It took out the cornea and lens on it's way through. I had a experimental cornea put in the 80s and in the 90s I had a new donor lens and cornea replacement.
This time it looks like a lot of fun also, not... Wish me luck. I would like to at least get back to the poor vision I was before;...

Now for the update. It seems things did not go great. There was some minor bleeding that got into the eye. That will slow the healing process.
To make things worse now it seems the lens they put in my eye 10 years ago has become detached and is floating around inside my eye. That will have to be re attacheed after my eye heals from this process.
I have been out of work for 3 weeks and it looks like it will be another 3-6 weeks at least until I can go back if I am lucky.
I cant drive until it's healed; that sucks... I cant work out utnil it is healed; that REALLY sucks. I will do isometrics starting soon but for now nothing. I dont want to chance it coming loose again.
Now to add insult to injury; my moms birthday it today, 86 and has been very healthy until the last couple of weeks where she has had stomach issues.
Turns out it's advanced Pancreatic cancer so she wont be with us much longer. Nice Birthday and Christmas present. It's not like there is ever a good time to find out something like that but??? At least I am not working and I can find a way to be around more to take care of what needs done.
OK enough venting for now. Hopefully I can be back at it in a month or two. Thank god for muscle memory and it's winter...

Sorry to hear about all of that. I wish you luck with your eye bother. Sounds like you have had alot of issues already with it that you have gotten through so maybe this is just a bump in the road for you. What have the doctors said about chance of recovery and how much you can expect to recover sight wise?
Horrible news about your mom. God works in mysterious ways and with you being out of work at least it will give you the opportunity to spend as much time with her as you can. Im lucky to have both my parents still so I dont know what its like to lose one, I can only imagine. Stay strong man.

Thanks guys. Im not to worried about they eye. It's a PITA right now because it like walking around with a glass of water in front of your eye.
My first surgery was when I was 10 yr old. I had a piece of metal come of a hammer when my dad was using it and it went through my Rt eye, through the pupil, took out the lens and went completely through the eye into the socket. I had 2 more surgeries by the time I was 11 only to repair part of the damage.
20 years ago I had one of the first cornea crafts put on and 10 years ago I had another true cornea graft/replacement and a lens implant. This operation caused to much stress on the lens and it came loose so needs to be put on again.
My moms situation is looking pretty bad but she is in good spirits. We will know more after she has a Stint put in her pancreas this week so it drains properly. It has a tumor crowing next to it cutting off the drainage.
Mostly in the near future it will be about making sure she is as comfortable as possible. Sucks but as staid, it gives us some good time and gives her a good chance to make some choices that most people dont have.
As for the lifting, I am just taking it easy until the doc says it's OK. I really dont want it to come loose again.

Good luck with it all. We hope to keep seeing you around.

Thanks guys, I'm still around just not doing anything yet. Need a little more healing time. I should be back at it soon but I can tell when I have done to much or stress it, twinges of pain. Not good.
My moms case isnt good, looks like it's advanced Pancriatic cancer so Im not sure how much longer she has. Non operable and she doesnt want (I dont blame her) to do Chemo and doctor says it's not a good idea at her age, 86.
Ill be back full time again more or less Jan 15th. thanks for the support

Man I was gonna whine a little about my sh!tt ass day yesterday until I read your thread..I am sorry to hear of your mother diagnosis,I lost a grandparent from both sides of the family to Pancreatic cancer. Not that it compares to losing your Mom,but count it a blessing that you are able to be near her now and offer her the love and support she will need.Best of luck with your recovery and my deepest sympathy to you and your family.

I'm back. It's been a LONG 2 months. Doc finally said I can start lifting LIGHTLY. Ill take it easy for a few weeks and ramp up slowly. Luckily I haven't gotten fat but I have gotten soft. Damn this sucks.
I'm SO looking forward to hitting the gym tomorrow, I just have to remember NOT to strain or lift heavy.
I have to have another surgery in 6 months to try to re attach the lens inside the eye since it came loose but I dont think that will put me out for long, not like this time.
I finally get to go back to work tomorrow also. Time to work some OT and catch up on bills; if that's possible... Missing out on all the Christmas/Holiday pay sucks. We get almost 2 weeks paid holiday for Christmas/New Years and since I was out on medical I didnt get it. OK enough whining for now.
I will catch up on post tomorrow when at work.

Thanks for asking. So far she is doing OK, only a couple days of New/severe pains in the abdomen but the pain meds she had took care of them once she remembered to take them. For the most part she is doing OK but not great. She is worried about going anywhere because she is worried about how she will feel if she goes out but I am encouraging her as much as possible to get out of the house.
It's going to be a hard road ahead but that's part of being family and the circle of life. Parents care for the children then the children care for the parents. Most people now days forget about that and she keeps trying to tell me she doesn't expect and I have my own family to worry about but I remind her she is family. Once you grow up or leave home doesnt mean you forget about where you came from and who took care of you. Unfortunately I have 4 siblings and 3 of them are that way. 2 dont even plan on showing up for a funeral, maybe 3. Sad.
Thanks again for asking.

SlimmerMe, I just saw this message you left me back in Nov. did you ever see that you got top billing in my interview?
Thanks, good to be back. I'm looking forward to hitting the gym again. It's going to be a long road catching up to where I was. I figure 2 months off, 4 months to get back to where I was.
Maybe I should be like a lot of the Newbies and ask Hey what cycle should I do to get back to where I was?? LOL NO, I know better. I will take my own advice I gave 100s of time. I will keep it 100% natural until I have reached or come close to my limits again. No need for any extra kick at this point, it would be a wast. I will rely on muscle memory and take it slow and steady.Last edited by lovbyts; 02-06-2011 at 02:21 AM.
