Any of you play Everquest back in the day?

Just curious if I have any old EQ allies on here. Please don't talk to me about that abomination WoW or EQ2 for that matter... i'm talkin old school Everquest, circa 98 - 2000. Anybody?

I am an old evercrack player gbrice and yes im talking the original. I still think about that game, it really was an addictive game espically for me to still think about it.

Its basically dead now though, u will be lucky to get 10 - 20 ppl in a hot zone.

Finally!!!! Wow, thanks for the link Boz, I love seeing this stuff! Yea, honestly, it was the greatest game ever IMO, SO engaging. And unlike WoW, it was an unforgiving game - you better be careful, because there were SERIOUS consequences for your actions.

I played almost my entire career on Vallon Zek, so PvP was part of the game for me - it just changed the dynamics of the game SO much, and for the better IMO. It made it SO real... we had to adapt so many different ways of doing things as compared to the blue server / PVE players... when I eventually did move to a blue server (Stormhammer for a bit, and eventually went over to the Nameless) I got very bored and really felt that missing.

Anyway, I could talk about the game forever. I miss my old guildmates dearly... you know as well as I do, it REALLY was like a family, we all spent so much time together. Some of the chats during downtime, waiting on spawns during raids, etc... awesome!

Yea, it's sad to see the state of the game today. Obviously WoW has succeeded EQ in popularity, but that's only because they've taken all the risk out of it and made an easy game that any moron can play (no offense to anybody playing WoW, I don't mean that you are all morons). EQ was hardcore man... before all the nerfs, before the PoP days and all that crap.... PoP ruined the game IMO. Kunark was the best expansion, Velious was great too, I kinda hated Luclin and then once PoP came out it was the beginning of the end for me. =(

To my belief WoW does require skill once u did hit the highest lvl, i know dying and certain aspects of the games do not come no where near as much as a challenge as EQ was. Once you have hit the highest lvl though thats when the game really begins.

Yeah I went to bristlebane for my second time round, and i was veeshan to begin with, never really had a go at the PvP maybe it was for me and I didn't even know.

I just miss my mates i know irl playing it, we would all get on the mic, stay up to all hours of the night, was great fun.

The expansions I had no real complaints with, you cannot expect a game to stay in 1 state without adding more content, ppl would stop playing quick smart, me for one also.

You seem to have some sort of attraction to online communities. You have clearly become a major contributor to this forum over the past couple of years and apparently you were really into this game back in its heyday. Just out of pure curiosity, I wonder what it is about your personality that draws you to this type of community. Are you like this in person with "real" friends, or is it limited to the online realm.
