Facebook
Facebook is now the #1 cause for divorce in this country. I personally know of five marriages that have fallen because someones husband or wife found someone new on the net. Anyone else know of any first hand cases of this?

i have never attempted to make advances on facebook since its a bit more personal. Don't really see the point when there are so many dating websites to choose from.

I am going to agree. That is like saying that work is the second leading cause of divorce, because that is where so many people meet the people they cheat with.
What Facebook does is connect people, and cheaters may meet someone there, just like they may meet them at work, at a friend's party or while test driving a car. What Facebook, email and texts HAVE done is make it more likely that people are caught. A lot of people break up now after one goes through the other's email or texts. It is like keeping love letters from a lover in a shoe box in the closet...frickin' moronic.

Marraige is an extremely outdated social construct and it can not withhold against the many forces of social networking that exist.
Its not only these websites but how they've become so deeply integrated into our culture. Almost everyone has a facebook now
and days I think I'm the only one the doesn't use mine.
But I think the divorce is more than just the websites. If they didn't exist sure more people would prob stay married, but it
would still be higher than in the past because attitudes towards marraige in general are changing.
We researched a lot of this in my relationships class and I think honestly one day people are just going to stop getting married
in general. Two of my brothers have been their gfs for over 10 years now. Neither have gotten married nor do they even talk about
it. However these are my 2 younger brothers. My 2 oldest brothers were together one for 6 years, and another for half that before
they got married.
I really just think that immense pressure as a social obligation is dissappearing. So along with facebook causing divorce, you also have
a lot of people now and days who just aren't getting married at all. And that can be playing a role with divorce too. A more casual
attitude towards pair bonding and yeh eventually more people all around the globe are fvckn.

so what are people doing hooking up with friends of their friends because its not like you can search by zip code like you can on myspace. hooking up with friends of friends is a good way for the spouse to find out. dont blame it on facebook though. facebook doesnt make you do it. it means that person had that stupid part in them to cheat.

Actually deactivated my account a few minutes ago for this exact reason. My fiance was getting jealous because of some of the girls on my friends list. Her last marriage was not good because of his cheating and I am not about to be accused of it. So I took a premptive strike and got rid of it. I know most of you will say that is BS because she should except my friends and be over it. Well yeah maybe, but I am a peace keeper so there you go.
