    To the military members

so im 20 and have been debating on whether or not if i want to join either the marines or rangers for the last 6 months. i do have a question and well its just something ive been wondering. well my goal in life is pretty much to get big and have been working towards that for the last 5yrs. now im just curious what is the military going to do to my body i personally am not fond of the being small and 5% body fat so what i am asking to the ones that have been threw it and is in it, is keeping some decent size possible and is gaining even a possibility?

so any info anyone can give me would be appreciated thanks guys

you can still grow muscle, get bigger and or stay at the body you want. . .

I have been in just shy of 10 years and have seen it all. your morning PT doesn't effect your workouts that much. you just have to plan your calorie intake and protein plans around your units training schedule.

during basic and your MOS school will be the only time that you are limited on what you can and can't take or eat. so yes there is some movement in body weight and stuff. but its not extreme.

once you are a full time and not in entry training you can pick pretty much what you eat and when. even at times i was working or training 10-12 hrs a day i still had great workouts.

    army.

there will be a GNC, PX (with a whole section of workout stuff), and most all supplement companies online send to APO addresses. .

and every base has gyms, and most gyms in combat zones are really nice. . . Though I am recovering from a shoulder injury I have been powerlifting for years and still run alot. it doesn't hurt your workouts to run in the mornings. if you are worried about going to far into a muscle loss state while doing morning PT just take some amino's and/or a protein shake.

i'm 5'8'' 214lbs BW and bench, squat, and deadlift at or over 500lbs (bench 495). and still can run five miles in 40 mins . . the military will not stop you from getting bigger or stronger. in fact you will be very shocked how many massive and well build guys in the military. .heck there are guys that are complete fat ass's and still run their two mile in 13mins. . its all in how you take care of yourself, and keep your level off intentsy up.

ah ok well thats good to know. ive just seen so many of my friends go in and come out just really lean and no size(some didnt really have size anyway) but for the ones that did it looked like they lost a bit, im assuming maybe they werent focused on getting or staying big. i mean i dont have a whole hell of a lot of size right now but i just didnt want to lose what i worked for is all. well thanks for taking the time to talk to me man now ive got one of my many questions answered

In basic an AIT you will probably lose some size, I know I did. Once your out of training though its like being on the outside more or less you eat what you want and workout when you want aside from your morning PT which honestly isnt that intense and gives you no excuse not to do fasted cardio a few times a week. There are some seriously HUGE guys in the military. The gym I had in Iraq was far nicer then the one I went to stateside also.
