I wouldn't consider the bold metal... DT maybe... prog metal. Porcupine Tree absolutely not (love these guys btw) - straight prog rock, same with Rush (love em too, seen them many times live)

Okay I need to explain the reason for adding Primus to my list and knocking Sabbath off. Right after I made my list I was at the gym and "Those damn blue collar tweakers" came up on my mp3 player. I have had some eye opening experiences at shows throughout my life and used to be deathly afraid of the mosh pit. I always liked metal music but not the pit I would always go upstairs or stand back when I was at a show and a pit started. I was at a Primus show and they played "Those damn blue collar tweakers" it has such a tribal primal feel to it and when I looked at the pit it looked like native americans dancing around a fire and I felt an overwhelming urge to go join in. I did and it was fun. I am too old for that stuff now but that night will be in my brain and soul forever.

    Metalica
    Motorhead
    Iron Maiden
    Megadeath
    Dio (Ronnie's voice is amazing)

Regardless of all the haters out there Metalica is the king of metal. Justice was the best metal album ever. I dont consider most of this new crap this decade even metal at all.

Well, i've thought about this, so let me see if I can get this right.

    Top 5 metal bands right?

Well, 3,4 and 5 have been around for awhile, are now considered very mainstream, so therefore, no list would be complete with out them.

2 makes the list, imho, because of origanality and over all popularity.

and #1 is, in my mind, without question, the gold standard for all metal. I doubt anyone could disagree with that, right?

I"m sure this will clear this matter up for everybody!
