    Anyone know Maui very well?

A gf and I are planning a quick (impromptu) vacation to Maui...flights from where we flying out of are like 430 round trip; tax in.

But, since this is on our own and we'll be booking hotel alone without an agent as well....we need help.

Where to stay...West Maui, East? Anyone know specifically places to where easy access is to see things...go places....night life?

Stayed in Kaanapali, surfed Kapalua point (Honolua Bay). Awesome sunsets looking out to Lanai. I was there during January not sure when the whale season is but if you go swimming duck your head under the water close your eye's and listen to the whales. It's awesome and scary at the same time.

Honolulu has the city, LA on an island. Still another side to the island though.

Maui is deeper rooted into the hawaiian experience.

Big Island being even more typical 'hawaii'

And Kauai is the ultimate jungle only 2 hotels on the island and is very secluded lush rainforest

Have you looked into the area called "Up Country?" It is more rustic than the other areas with charm....
