Ok if your gonna quote Chris Rock...lets do it right.
Chris Rock as Nat X on SNL. The top 5 reasons black men DO NOT play ice hockey. Why only 5? Because 10 would make "the man" nervous. Here we go:
5) It's too damn cold out there
4) Don't want to be around white men with sticks
3) Don't want to be around white men in masks
2) Scared to get their gold tooth knocked out
and the number 1) reason....Do not feel the need to dominate yet another professional sport!!

LOL, thanks for the grammar lessons.
I can't stand it when a team goes out and pays for the championship. Sure, the Avs have built part of it (Drury, Hejduk, etc.) but they always end up bringing in outsiders to get it done in the playoffs. Do you think Rob Blake actually felt the same as the other players when they won the Cup last year? I guess I'm just used to seeing a team built from the bottom up.

I am a sports fan but of all the sports out there, i am a fan the least of hockey...i just lived there when they were winning them so...
I'd rather see a team whose majority of its players have been together longer than 2 months win any championship...am i agreeing with you? Scary thought...

So you're an Avs fan?
-

Ya I like the Av's and I have to like the Kings cause Im from LA. Im always neutral when the avs comes to town. I would consider myself a fan of the game more than anyone team. Although I hate the ducks, Pitt and most of all the Redwings. I love to play also. I think if I were born somewhere besides Ca I could have at least played college. Being from Ca I started playin at age 21. But the game came naturally to me.

Hey Excess, you forgot to add the Ottawa.....even though they do choke in the playoffs, but hey you never know

EXCESS, You guys will do good. Is Roy you goalie again this year. He kicks ass when he plays for the national team. Ricter did well for us last time but he was just in a zone at the time.
-
12-02-2001, 10:52 PM #25
Roy chose not to play in the olympics. It looks like Curtis Joseph will be the starter, although Wayne Gretzky said he's looking at Ed Belfour and Martin Brodeur too.
Triple Plates, I didn't add Ottawa for that exact reason. They seem to assume that a team full of Europeans will take them to the Stanley Cup. No offense to Europeans, but the North American players seem to step up and take the pain in the playoffs. How's this for a debate: North America vs. Europe (and don't give me "the World team has played really well in the All-Star game" because we all know that toughness means nothing in those games.

We are gonna get killed. Our team looks good. Great "D". Then you get to our net: Mike Dunham, Brent Johnson, Rick Dipietro what the hell at least Herbert won't be there again. Damn Richter why do you have to be hurt.
I'd go with Eddie the Eagle for you guys. He has the desire to win like Roy did. Roys competitiveness is hard to replace

I heard that Peter Forsberg might return after xmas. I also heard that he's not injured and that he just felt burnt out. What happened to tough athletes?
-
12-07-2001, 12:53 AM #34
I know what you mean today's athletes are pussies. How many times in the NHL do you see guys go down with pulled groins. I pulled my groin every single year I played football. Doctor told me to rest it. I told him to F off. Then he told me its just a pain thing. If I could stand the pain wait till the end of the season. Imagine how much pain these high salaries should buy.

I gotta say Forsberg is a tough player, he goes thru alot in a game, I guess the wear and tear has caught up with him..... shit just to think the Canucks were one draft pick away from picking him... damn Flyers!

Although the gap is beggining to shorten, there is still a big difference between the way hockey is played in Europe and in North America. The North Americans embrace the physicallity of the sport, the hard hitting, the enforcing, the bumping the grinding, playing injured, blood running down the cheek, getting stiched up on the bench and not missing a shift...old time hockey. The Europeans and all about finesse... the soft passing, the controlled puck handling, the effortless skating, the obsessively organized play making...euro hockey. I think it makes for a good mix, but as far as entertainment goes, I prefer the North American style.

Is it just me, or is Jaromir Jagr always injured during the playoffs? He needs to learn how to suck it up and play hurt, but he never will because he's got no heart. Nevermind, he's a Capital now, he won't have to worry about the playoffs anymore!
