I know they are. They are great imo. Spectacular in so many ways just like Pink Floyd imo. Some of Floyd songs are mental but once you understand what it was like at the time it was cool to listen to their madness. Also The Straglers, Budgie and Sabbath are all cool bands

I don't think Sabbath was the start of metal imo. There was bands out there at the same time that where just as heavy. Budgie google and look for black velvet stallion or if was britannia Id wave the rules, I like Floyd due to their spectacularly recorded albums and if you are driving for a long time and some music to listen to but also clear your brain too. I wouldn't be a die hard fan but I do enjoy listening to them. Hendrix is good but it all sounds slightly the same to me. But he does have some truly epic songs.

budgie were an underrated band for sure. Sabbath would have been recognised more for bringing it to the masses. Jethro Tull were considered the big outfit when Sabbath etc were getting going. infact, Tommy Iomi left Sabbath in their fledgling years for a stint with Tull but appar he couldnt get on with Ian Anderson, thank fvck he didnt get on with him lol.
heres another band from that era

That's fairly cool that song man. Yeh I heard that too. Tull where ok, some mad songs by them. I prefer the horslips to be honest its a better mix to be honest. Budgie are class imo. Sabbath I suppose are reknowned for bringing it to the masses as you say.

Zep and Floyd are among my all time favorites.
As for the start of metal - yes, there were bands that were 'heavy' before there was heavy metal (and Sabbath). Blue Cheer, The Who, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Hendrix, Steppenwolf... etc
BUT - I firmly believe Sabbath are responsible for metal 'proper'. i.e. there is heavy music (certainly alot of The Who's music is heavy, but they're not heavy metal. Same for alot of Zep's stuff)... and then there is heavy METAL. Sabbath brought that dirty, scary, satanic element to it... the music is undeniably HEAVY METAL.
Imho of course!

No need for IMHO here man. Everyones view is acceptable man. It's good to read other view points on this. I think you are right to a certain degree but I think the English bands as you mentioned a few above have had more of a influenece but to be fair the American bands made a better job of it imo.
The Who's music is not that heavy imo. It's good but a bit hard to listen too also.

As for The Who... definitely not heavy by any other standards, but for a 60's band they were pretty heavy - mostly due to Keith Moon's drumming, and Roger Daltrey's often screamed vocals.

I know what you mean, they are one of the bands I have a few of their album but never could get into them for some reason.
