I agree with everyone above that said charging was a BAD idea. Sure, it would solve some of our minor annoyances, but it is a horrible business model that would destroy the site.

I have noticed that most of the racist jerks have left, but I think many of the people that were annoyed by them have left as well. A lot of the people that I would see arguing with the racists are no longer here. Not that long ago, seemingly EVERY thread turned into a fight about how brown people were ruining the US. That kind of behavior, left unchecked, can probably have a huge effect on member participation. I will also mention that this is not a free speech or first amendment right issue. This is a privately owned site, and people need to know that you can restrict their speech in whatever way you see fit.

I also figure people can't cycle, or are passing on their fist cycle because so many people are broke. The economy hurts everyone, and there is no doubt that AAS is a disposable income item.

i have been on here for a year and i can see what your talking about. i only go into a few sections but fewer and fewer members are around, especially in the lounge. i am not a member on any other sites and do not even have a FB account, but this site is one that i have a lot respect for, especially for the members on here that have given me advice from day 1! i like what everyone has had to say and i agree with most points about why members are not here anymore. i love the fact that there are people on here from all over the world to give their view on a subject with their experiences and knowledge.

Im a member of another site that isnt a bb site but they offer a 25.00 gift certificate towards product after a new person joins and posts in the INTRO thread...and that was the ONLY reason I joined that site lol, but I did/do visit it often due to the vocal /active ladies that is lacking from this site.

Im a really new member so dont have much input on the vets not logging in, but I do talk with several of the ladies that are members here that are hesitant to post and we all have the common reason for joining just yesterday I mentioned that there must be a bunch of girls lurking or are members that are not active for the same reason.

For the ladies, having any males (even if a proff from the site) having access to the lady forum is a huge turn off. Deleting all old posts from guys in the ladies lounge might help (if it isnt done already).

Unfortunately there just isnt a pool of experienced ACTIVE ladies here and that is what we have joined for...if there was a way to have incentives for ladies to join and post it would prob draw in more girl members, but right now the ladies lounge is dead, some posts are years old, the advice is all great but ladies want personalized responses.

    Hope that helps

IMO i see alot of the guys who do post rip apart anyone who is new and not asking the right question. Prb leads to fewer new members coming on here and staying.

Yeah ive seen people post and be kind of arrogant and dick head like to new peeps, its usually GO TO THE DIET SECTION!!!! instead of being nice and welcoming them and explaining what htey need to do and add in some tips, were all here for mostly the same reasons, why not help eachother out....doesnt have much to do with the subject but the worlds a shit hole because everybody is looking to get theirselves ahead and never think of helping another.

    Agreed

I would also say that most newbs who ask a question about "what is PCT"? Or "what is the conversion for this HCG vial"? Etc obviously haven't checked the Please read before posting sections or rules sections, or any of the other stickies that would answer their questions, if they only bothered to look. All it says to me is that if they ask one of these questions and someone comes in with a reply of "yeah, take nolva for 6 weeks along with Clomid at,,,,,,,,,,,,,,etc" then these are the guys that are gonna screw themselves over because they obviously want a quick fix and don't wanna learn, they just wanna get big. Thats is dangerous. The replies that say"check the sticky" or "go to the diet section" and so on, will encourage them to learn and do it right. Thats being responsible! If they read, learn and assimilate (I got tats you know)lol, the information, who knows, they may learn and know enough to be the future of this board and become the next mods, vets etc. After all, longevity of a site like this is important and a huge reason why the thread was started in the first
    place. Just my two cents

I always warmly say "Welcome. Go to the diet section." Heh.

I do it for a reason. I have been back in this game for ten months after many years off with a back injury. It took me eight months to start eating right again, and now I wish I would have done it from the start. I would be months ahead of where I am now. I try to point others in that direction, but they act like I am a jerk for suggesting that they go to the diet section. If I run into another 6' guy that weighs 160 pounds but says "f*ck you dude, I totally know how to eat, my diet is perfect" I am going to start slapping people. At that point I am done. I won't tell him how much Test to use when I can't even get him to eat some chicken.

I will agree that we aren't always the warmest bunch when someone asks a question that should be day-one reading. I came here to read for weeks before I joined. I used the search button when I wanted specifics. But, I am old...and know how to use a forum. Many guys just end up here because they did a Google search for steroids . And we need to be nicer to those guys. We were all idiots at one point.

Here's my idea. You can only thumb up/down (rate) any member three times an hour. You cannot rate the same member more than once in any given 24 hour period.

This should eliminate someone continously giving someone a negative rating repeatedly.

The idea is that if a member goes rogue and becomes disrespectful, it would require several members to give a negative rating and thereby resulting in said member getting a time out.

This would eliminate the need to go running to admin every time familiar trolls come back and start slamming everybody. We should be able to police ourselves for such mundane tasks as this.

    Make sense?

The number one complaint I have received via pm or email since asking this question! Members (staff included are not friendly)

I to agree with a lot of what Twist says, smart guy there.....

Im a staff member and i know ive not been around much of late but this will change, that i promise.. However i have seen a number of members mention staff being at fault for some of the issues regarding old members leaving. I would love to know more about this, which staff are the problem or which staff are ganging up on members??? I don't want to turn this into a witch hunt but if we want things around here to improve then we need for you guy's to be honest with us, hell i can take criticism and am more than happy to listen....

Btw this doesn't included sexual advancements from dsm

THis is why their called newbies,, they dont know shite yet,, thats why we have to be patient and guide them to what they need. To much defensiveness when newbs say or do something a vet doesnt like. If s teroids.com want higher/steady traffic and revenue then we need to keep everyone coming back.

    What about the following:

    -Improve Speed of forum

-Find a reputation system that ONLY gives reputation to a member when OTHER members "Like" a post the member left? The amount of reputation gives you NO other powers and does not make your vote better or more powerful than any other member, but it will show other members that the member is productive and produces good posts?

-Allow talking about sources, but NOT allow any sort of source posting, source spamming, or ANYTHING about a source openly other than quality, reputation, and questions about the brand. This will NOT allow discussing prices, delivery times, etc... (I think our rule about not talking about sources has been GREAT for the forum, BUT I also think it is time to start being realistic and allowing people to talk about the different sources (as long as its within reason **rules to be determined**). Most boards are either open source or have grown over the years SIMPLY because WE DONT allow it and members go elsewhere to discuss this topic.

-MORE STAFF to enforce a positive inviroment as well as the rules. It will become a bit more work if we allow discussion of sources and the rules will have to be strict. NO SOURCING ON THIS FORUM. Basically... if it happens and we dont know about it, we dont know about it. If it happens and we FIND out about it (soliciting, open sourcing, or any other BS) That member is given ONE STRONG warning and is banned if they dont get the hint.

-Improve the Spam filter so that the forum does not moderate legit posts **looking into this now and think its only a program adjustment that needs to be made**

-Ensure that the members here treat everyone with respect. We understand heated discussions, but telling a newbie he is a dumb fuk is stupid. Yelling at him to read the rules is like telling your 2 year old not to piss their pants... it doesnt work. If the member cant be helpful... NO PROBLEM, but DONT post anything to the Newbie at all! (our site gets over 60k unique viewers every day... WE WILL have a shit load of newbies. Its just the way of the world....

-Find some forum leaders to help monitor some of the larger forums.... I still do NOT like the idea of giving members "Power" to moderate posts or other members (for GOOD reasons, from power hungry members, to abuse and misuse.) This will help to keep things moving and they can let the admin know when there is a problem and we can take care of them.

These are my thoughts.... What do you all think?

Oh... Here are my thoughts on some of the concerns posted above:

We will NEVER charge. I HATE paying for websites and to be honest... thats why I created steroid .com. When I did, we were one of the ONLY free sites on the web (besides Meso and a few smaller ones)

I dont like having limit on page views before making someone a member. All of the other websites do this ONLY because they want to show they have a bazillion members I dont want to appear that we have a shit load of members... I want to HAVE a ton of GREAT members who contribute.

We are FOCUSED on creating a user friendly forum which make it fun and educational for EVERYONE of all levels of knowledge. Ive never been concerned about number of members of visitors... I am focused on providing QUALITY, which is the key to success. Everything else will follow.

I like every single point you've made B. I think the source talk point is a step in the right direction/future, but as you said will require staff to be very involved and aware. It does open the door for people to start trying to get 'creative', so we need to be one step ahead.

Like the idea of a fair and balanced rep system, would love to hear more. Forum leaders is also a great idea imo. As for the slowness, once fixed that's a no brainer - people will be happy. Forum moderating legit posts - yea, it'd be nice if the forum didn't moderate me linking to my own log in the diet section, lol!

Love to see the open-mindedness and progressive attitude around here... very refreshing!

Anyone here visit Gawker? They have a common feature where they list people they have banned (usually temporarily) and what they did. It teaches readers what NOT to do in the comments. Their goal is to get rid of idiots and bring comments up to a certain level. They work hard to not allow their commenters reach the lows of YouTube and other dregs of society.

They have rules that are MUCH tighter than you would expect, including using punctuation and a requirement that you not be inane. Members that only post with "+1" or other one-word answers...banned on occasion to set an example. Racism...banned. Starting a post with "I am not a racist, but..." results in the occasional banning because, well, it is always followed with something racist. Typing in all caps...banned. These are things this forum could NEVER get away with, but it does bring up the post quality considerably.

Maybe a regular thread that publicizes the suspension of the most egregious offenders, and what they were suspended for would be both interesting and informative. Lord knows you can't get people to read your expectations by putting it in a sticky. I cannot even get someone to read a sticky called "beginner cycles" when they are asking for information on, well, cycles for beginners.

    What's a sticky?

Check out all the banhammer threads on Gawker here: http://gawker.com/banhammer/

You can see the different entries on the right. They have it once a week. Read a few. They are always funny, and always a reminder of the stupid stuff you shouldn't do.

The forum could use a face lift. A little design goes a long way to make us look like we aren't stuck in the 90s. A solid design will reflect the size of membership and depth of knowledge to be found here. I believe it could be a competitive advantage as many people visit multiple sites. Design can make the site more sticky.

life is screwed up right now for alot of people.
things change, as most of us who have been here for 3-4 years know..

i think the economic struggle is causing alot of us to spend less and less time on here....

The rep system is socially flawed.

People will give reps based on the "bro factor", how many posts a person has, and how they get along with others, not necessarily the content of one's post.

If you're new you'll have to kiss a s s until you file in line socially with the vets, otherwise if you simply disagree with them you'll get neg rep'd by all their fanboys that hang out on the forum all day.

This would exacerbate the "unfriendly to newb" issues IMO.

We are working on the facelift... and the look of the banner as well cosmetic I know but does count for some.

We have scratched the rep idea for some of the very reasons you suggested. However we had not planned to have any negitive rep to the system...

I think a lot is up to us to police ourselves and each other. If someone feels that a member is being over harsh on a newb, then one should pm that member and tell him, her without being hateful about it and causing a blowup. this keeps it off the board and scaring away possible new members..

i think the longer someone is a member on here the more they tend to veer towards the lounge as the Q&A becomes seriously depressing with the same kiddie threads and trolls.

would a beginners Q&A and an experienced Q&A be the answer? with some sort of system in place enforcing beginners to have to spend a certain amount of time in that forum before progressing?
Couldn't agree more w/dec11 on this! He's on target w/the Q&A. Personally, that's one of the reasons i haven't been on as much. Plus, a lot of the newbs are smart asses! We try to explain to them that we try to dispense the healthiest advice possible, but they just don't listen. Some do, but it's rare. I like to help if i can, but i refuse to beat my head against the wall.
We need to have some sort of questionnaire in place for new members as well. This would come in handy w/dec's recommendation. It will weed out the beginners. Nothing wrong w/a beginner, like to help, but us experienced guys that try to help get told "to hell w/it, i'm doing it anyway!" Not to mention the young cats going to use Tren . That has been a big issue lately.
If there's anything i can do please let me know...Here to help as best i can.

I dont agree with the charging a fee to be here. But some things need to change to stop the underage kids the trolling.I like the idea of a beginers section. One that will lay it all out for them.Beacuse it seems like when you get a young kid in the QnA section they just dont understand things. So maybe their own section with it all layed out will help.
