Alternative Medicine...
One of my girlfriend's co-workers was raving at work yesterday about this Alternative Health facility down the road. Says she has been going there for a month (4 visits) n claims the results are amazing. She gets hydro colon therapy and takes a bunch of natural supplements like black walnut and other herbal concoctions. Supposedly shes lost a few lbs (shes already real thin), facial blemishes cleared, more energy, and a greater sense of overall well-being. I did a little research and some diabetics also claim that it has drastically improved their blood sugar levels.
Personally I believe its a fad/scam and its the next new way to feel "healthy". Now she's all about trying this place out.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I always laugh when i hear this (no disrespect intended)
If you want to intake "black walnut and other herbal concoctions", that is what your mouth is for.... intake. Your anus is for output... don't confuse the two.... many do.
If you want to clense, try psyllium husk fiber, and yes, take it in through your mouth. this will clean you out. Anything washed away with a fancy term like "hydro colon therapy" which is a fancy word for "enema" would come out anyways, the next time you went to the bathroom.
Like PT Barnum would say, "there is a sucker born every minute"
....don't be the next sucker!

Every watch Penn & Teller's Bullsh1t on Showtime?
One of their episodes was devoted to this very same topic. The dynamic duo gave this bloke $500 to be the stoolie. so he walks in, and this lady has this big fancy machine. one end goes up his butt. water is pumped in, and then out comes the "stuff". After alot of mumbo jumbo, he walks out. Q:"how do you feel?" A:"Like i had about 5 gallons of warm water pumped through my butt"

I don't buy into the alternative medicine stuff but I was bored one day watching pbs and Dr Andrew Weil was on talking about this. Here is what he says about colon cleansing I actually went to his site and found this. Not even all of the alternative medicine guys think its a great idea.
I don't recommend colonic irrigation for "purification." The entire lining of the colon sloughs off and is regenerated every day. If you are eating well, drinking enough water, and getting enough physical activity, your regular eliminations will be sufficient to keep the colon clean and in good working order.
Andrew Weil, M.D.

when scientists ran trials all these things they took the stuff that 'works' to the side and called it 'medicine'
the rest is BS

I remember hearing about people doing this stuff years ago and there are a lot of people who give them-self almost daily enemas. It causes more problems than it helps because you also destroy the natural enzymes and can end up doing more harm than good. Once in a while when it is NEEDED due to extreme constipation is OK but personally I will stick to a glass of prune juice when things arent working right.
Only one time I had a real problem and was in extreme pain for 48+ hrs due to blockage and spastic colon at the same time. After trying several of the normal remedies such as enema, stool softeners, laxative I had someone get me some prune juice and drank a full glass. Problem solved about 5 minutes later. LOL One of the worst 48 hrs of my life though. Spent 40 of it or more in the bathroom.

25 years ago, I walk into an alternative health food store, just to look around. before you know it, the lady wants me to stretch my arms out straight, parellel to the ground, so she can test me. she pushes down on one of my arms, claims i didn't move or respond the right way, so she diagnoses me with thyroid problems, and for only $45, this bottle of pills is just what I need, to take and then come back in a month for another "test". I'm like .... WTF?? She was dead serious too. and the problem was, people believed her, and gave her money for her elixers and potions and what not.

20 years ago, i walk into a library, and they were having aura reading demonstrations. they would read your aura and then, with crayons, draw your aura over this line drawing of a body shape on a piece of paper and tell you what it meant. since i had a suit and tie on, i got lots of greens and blues.... "successful, motivated colors". the bloke next to me was living on the streets, there for the free coffee, so his got yellow and orange colors, meaning he wasn't at his potential and had suffered emotional damage. and then they were using both hands, pushing them into my aura, and then trying to seperate by hand motions the various layers, and then they'd scribble some more colors in the "coloring book". the chick that was doing me, i thought, maybe she could do a better job if she took off some of her layers and give me something to look at. but other than that, total BS. and then they had this little box where you could donate money if you so desired.

15 years ago, i took a "self hypnosis" class to try and relieve some job related stress. so we layed down on these matts, and focused on the spots on the ceiling, and we were getting more and more relaxed... I've never felt so relaxed before, like I could drift off on a cloud leaving all my worries behind me. So after awhile, I kinda just floated on outta there, never looking back....

I'm more a product of the 70's than the 60's....
back then, the ails of society were remedied by the inventory one kept in one's medicine cabinet. Everything was so innocent and naive. and then came the Stones concert up at the Altamont Raceway, and Mick singing some morbid song, egging on the violence, until someone from HA snuffed a guy. That was, imho, the turning point. BTW... this was probably 30 miles from my house when it happened.

Reading about Job's decision to stay away from conventional medicine was sad. He seemed to have a form of cancer with a high survival rate. When he died I told my wife, "you know cancer is serious when an intelligent billionaire can't beat it." Then when I started to read that he tried to treat his cancer with diet I screamed, "what an idiot!"
I grew up with a nutty mom that was into a lot of natural and spiritual things. It was interesting, but none seemed to be beneficial. I really learned a lot when I partnered with a friend of mine (years ago) to redesign her holistic magazine. Man, I couldn't believe the claims made by people with ZERO education. I divided them into two groups: one that completely believed what they were selling, and the other that were consciously conning their customers. I always had fun trying to figure out which group the advertisers fell into.

My mom has MS and my mother n law used to constantly try to talk to her about alternative medicine. I use the term medicine very loosely. I finally told her that she needed to butt out and not contact my parents about it again. Since that time they haven't brought it up.

yes. this is correct. we heard about the violence, but didn't think much about it. I was at a led zeppelin concert in '78 and saw a chic trampeled to death while we were trying to get in, so a death at a concert isn't anything new at the time.
btw.... I don't think HA was as innocent as your comment lends itself to believe. there was quite abit of contraversy over this
