technology
An interesting debate (well i think so anyway ):
has technology made life easier, or is there a largely unseen cesspit of counteractive misery in its trail?
what is your view and why?

Def made life easier.. But it also makes people lazy and the new generation more and more.. You can now do things people in the past couldn't dream of.. It makes it so easy for young guys to pick up girls.. I think makes people more socially awkward because they don't ever have to spring up a conversation in person.. Just wait till they get alone and Facebook or text it.. And for people who don't lack social ability, it makes it easier to get caught talking to multiple partners.. I know I made it seem the contrary, I do believe it made life easier and for the better

I agree it's a double edged sword. The good side is life is so much more easier. I mean go back to the 1800's when all people had were covered wagons and Indians in the wild west. Technology has advanced us so far it's almost unbelievable what we now can do. I'm always amazed when I watch pbs shows and such seeing where science and technology is going. My only fear is that man will destroy himself before we make more giant leaps forward and we can go so far. The mind is the limit. What was science fiction just decades ago is now science fact. I am looking forward to a time when we can transport instantly from one site to another and nanobots ( microscopic robots programmed for identifying and repair at a cellular level) in the body to repair any and all damages from disease. What is exciting also is how far how fast we have come. Look no further than the last 50 years or so when all we had were tube type black and white TV sets. Now we have 65 inch flat screen plasma tv's with 3d technology, predator flying drones to fight wars with, planes invisible to radar, and who knows what is in the pike for future release from skunk works and area 51. No wait those 2 places don't exist lol But yeah the down side is now we are getting so much lazier and fatter causing all kinds of health issues that we must learn to reverse this health problem. I am so ashamed of our people over here in America when I walk into any Wal-Mart like stores and watch the crowds of not just slightly over weight people but way obesely overweight people including their poor kids. I wouldn't dare say anything to them but it is obvious Americans need to get our house in order when it comes to Health and again it is because technology has made life so easy. No one walks anymore. The store is a few blocks away but we drive to it. School buses pick up all the kids so none of them walk to school. We are a highly mobile society thanks in part to technology. we have more food grown on less soil, thanks to technology. But that cesspit of counteractive misery as you call it is largely seen in the american people themselves. Makes me wonder too if all this easy life has made us more frail and fragile with more people having to turn to massive amounts of meds for all kinds of ailments. Especially anti-depressants. I mean back in the old days people worked from sun up to sundown and didn't have time to be sick or worried or depressed. My school teacher used to tell us that Abe Lincoln used to walk to school every day 20 miles a day. The only problem is he was late! Yep he was late every fvcking day! But he was on time to the theater where he was shot.

I believe it has made life easier, to an extent. Most families still require dual income, which means 16+ hours/day. True, we are no longer running scared from sabre tooth tigers with spears in our hands. We have amassed more "stuff" that we really don't need, which means we had to pay for it, which means we had to work for the money to pay for it, which means we have to work harder than maybe we should.
But the nature of our lives has changed. Children are no longer raised in the home, but instead by others we must pay.
The family unit has broken down. More kids than ever before are either not living with their father, or with a man not genetically their father.
Our jails are filling up. Long ago we surpassed one million incarcerated in this country. Something is wrong when such a large portion of our population behind bars.
Drugs run rampent and are everywhere. Almost every family has been touched by drugs at some point or another.
The correct question should be....
"Has technology, and everything it brings, improved our overall quality of life, and therefore makes us happier?"

Watch The Transcendent Man, it shows us where technology is taking us and it will blow your mind, or scare you to death...

I firmly believe our technology is taking us to an entity which is currently being hailed as the "Singularity"

some say it is 20 years out. Could be more or less depending on who you talk to. But I believe there will come a time...

It has made life/work easier or less manual if you are in an office type environment so you can do the same work as you did 15-20 years ago in the fraction of the time but now you do 10x as much so it all works out to be the same more or less. Yes it has also made us all more dependent and less self reliant in most cases. Take away a cell phone from a normal teenager for a day and they will go nuts. No texting? OMG LOL
Im not much better. I use to spend hours on end at home on the computer on my days off or after work. Not playing game (very much) but just surfing, buying, selling and of course porn..... It took a while but I go days even a week or more without going online at home and getting a lot more down than I use to.

one thing ive noticed is an epidemic of, previously strictly controlled, prescribed drugs.
i know ppl from rural areas who are hooked on painkillers and valium. now, before the advent of the internet, these folks would have only ever been able to get these drugs from a GP and would have been much more likely to rely on a bottle of vodka, now drugs are a click away and sure while we're at it, who needs a GP anymore? just self prescribe, aint that the way to go? suddenly 'mothers little helper' is helping itself around the globe at light speed uncontrolled. one thing ive noticed is, it isnt ''such and such is an alcoholic'' these days, its more along the lines of ''such and such is a zombie''. the demon drink is being replaced by the devil drugs.
this is only pricking the surface......
keep the opinions rolling in

Unfortunatly the system, doctors, drug companies are just fine with creating a society of zombies hooked on pain killers. As long as they are prescribed it's all good. I go to a pain management clinic due to my back issues. 99% of the people in the office are zombies. The other 1% are truly in pain and looking for help but unfortunately most will not find the help they are looking for. I do my own self managing of what they give me. I take 1/2 or less of what is prescribed and stop 100% periodically to clean out my system so I dont become one of the walking dead. I also have a network of friends who have been told to let me know if I start acting more brain dead than usual just in case I dont see the signs.
Sometimes pain meds are a necessary evil but they are obviously over prescribed. In another year I will be able to open my own pharmacy due to overstock. I need to buy another rifle/gun safe. LOL
