Secret Surprise in my box of granola! =)
Hey guys. some of you probably heard me bitchin about lack of good clean food over here. I've resorted to eating granola in themorning, along with a scoop of protein powder (but not in my cereal). I shovel it down pretty fast then skype my family. so today, as usual, i see these little black grain husks floating in my granola, and finally, i'm like "wtf are these little black things?" so I isolate one with my spoon, take it to a light source, then shine an LED flashlight on it to boot. I m sitting there looking at it, and i begin to notice that these little black grain husks seem to have insect legs? naw... can't be, right? so i isolate another one and sure enough... insect legs. I must have over a hundred of these things floating on top of my milk, which means i've probably eaten thousands apon thousands of bugs over the last 6 weeks.
welcome to afghanistan baby!
the good news is that i've probably been consuming more protein than I realized?

This happened to me once when ants got in my cereal. It was dark and I ate probably half the bowl. I was 15. To this day I still stir my cereal and look close to make sure this doesn't happen again.

i eat a box a day, and this floating black particulate matter is in every box. So i've had over 30 boxes, always wondering what that black stuff floating at the top was.
eating bugs don't bother me as long as they dont' give me disease.
having said that, i won't be eating that cereal anymore!

Bug parts are in every food you eat that is from a grain...it happens and can't get away from it. Yet....they're grinded up from processing....ewwww for the ones you can see.

yeah, they were all over just floating in my milk... never thought much about it until this morning when there were dozens and dozens of em floating. and i waited until almost the bowl was empty (I was hungry)
I found out what they were. Weavels!
So I got to looking at these things, and not too terrible really. So i had two of em on my spoon, and i began thinking....
....if I had to pick and eat just one, then which one?
and the answer finally came to me...
....of course, it would be the lesser of two weavels, right? =)

I wouldn't worry about the little insect parts TR.. In afghanistan that's considered a condiment..
Plus as you said, think of all that extra protein.

yeah, i've got a cook. same jerk that gave me salmonella, and typhoid to three other expats, and parasites to a few others. this is the bloke I caught him taking a crap in the restroom and then not washing his hands before going into the kitchen. i had to tell him if you are going to make us up sandwhiches ahead of time for the next day, to individually wrap them, else the outside bread gets hard, inside gets soggy, and put some friggin mayo or something in there besides plain tuna.

yes, we do. but what am I to do? work all day, and then spend an hour in the kitchen cooking dinner? and then what am i to do for lunch? sandwhiches every day?
the project provides meals in the dining hall. everything else is out of pocket....
...'cept the weevils. those are on the house!

I'm sorry bro but the mental image of you swearing and throwing food at the cook is hilarious!! Too bad about the weavels, maybe sautee them in butter.
