How do you feel about acronyms?

I was reading a friends text the other day...and read SMH. I thought about it for a long time...wtf is SMH?

I had to ask my 19 year old secretary....who of course knew.

But, am I getting old? Am I use to using actual grammer? I think its the first of the two...but am I the only one who doesn't pay attention to short hand?

The older we get the more they make no sense. LOL Yeah it can be hard to keep up sometimes but it saves a bit of time especially on those little key boards and multi button pushing.

Once in a while I have to look them up such as SMH.

don't feel too old kawi.. I'm in my late 20's n have no clue what most of em mean.. I equate those to 20 yr old girls.. no grown-up should be using em (except the traditional ones: lol, stfu, etc..)

    My most hated is "ftw"
People use it all the fvckin time n it has tons of different meanings.. lazy bastards..

I seem to be one of the few people that types everything out, even when texting. Plus, my full range of emotions cannot be expressed with eight stupid acronyms.

I won't even type "LOL", which seems to be at the end of every damn sentence in texts from some people. I have found that "ha!" has the same number of characters and allows me to say something was funny. I will sometimes use more than three letters to let people know how I really feel and will move up to "bwaahaahaa!" or the more clinical, "that is funny."

More annoying are the people that won't use capital letters or punctuation. Or, the people that text in bursts, like so:

    wassup

    wanna lunch?

    thinking of tacobell

    can go in 10

    be there round 1

    TB FTMFW!!!!!

    lol!!!!!!

Seriously, if you are too lazy to type you should just communicate clearly: Lunch? Taco Bell at 1:00?

I was hoping someone would catch the fact that my little guy above was shaking his head. LOL

I though ATM was the place that charges me $3.50 every time I want to take any of my money out of the bank?

One of the girls from work received a text from her mom a while back and was totally angry about it until she spoke with her mom about it for clarification. It read, "Grahm just passed. Come home when you can. LOL." After speaking with her mom, she found that her mom thought LOL meant Lots of Love. Classic.

I didn't know what SMH was. I guessed $uck my hole but, then again, I don't know what kind of friend would say that. Ha. I just use *shaking head*.

Im far too stupid and impatient for all the e-bonics out there. It pisses me off even more that in some places in North America, it is accepted in classrooms to use this form of writing as the teachers feel that any way they can reach the children is a step in the right direction... actually no, you are creating a bunch of idiots who cant pass on knowledge as they dont understand anything throughout history dat Aint dun spell'd how u text dat ish

I am fine with acronyms but I also find it funny how we went from drawing on cave walls to a written language, then millions of years later we get text messaging and it is our own form of cave drawing.
    = happy
    = sad
    = wink
    and so on
