    Heart palpitations.

Hey. So a little bit about myself. I'm a pretty healthy guy always have been my whole life playing sport and keeping active. Anyway, since maybe a few years ago, I've noticed my heart skipping a beat every now and then - maybe like once a week or once every two weeks. It's never a regular occurrence. I did a bit of research and apparently it's something a lot of people experience. Some only experience once a month, others once a week, and some pretty often.

So, is it something to worry about? Have any of you experienced an occasional heart palpitation? It doesn't really worry me because it's not a regular occurrence. But I was just wondering what some of you guys have to say about them.

Let me get this straight, YOU noticed? A heart murmur inst really something you notice or can typically detect on your own. I would not say you have a heart murmur or it skips until you have it proven medically. it's easy to not feel a heart beat and imagine all sorts of stuff. Easy and obvious answer is go to the doctor and get it verified and then see if it's really an issue you need to have looked into further. Maybe your last 2 girlfriends just took part of your heart with them?

Probably not an issue. Agree with Lovbyts, go to the doctor.

For an otherwise healthy male occasional heart palpitations are nothing to be concerned about.

They can happen for any number of reasons like stress, not enough sleep, too much partying, too much caffeine...the list goes on.

They happen commonly and it's really a way for the brain to recalibrate it's sync with a normal cardiac rhythm.

There may be an underlining pathology that can cause them but from what you describe it's more normal than anything else.

I get them all the time and I don't even think about them any more.

Here's a link that may help you better understand them: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/003081.htm

Yeah I know it's not something I should notice. But it's pretty obvious when it happens. It just feels like my heart skips like one or two seconds tops and then starts beating again. While it stops it has this sinking sort of feeling. I can't really describe it.

Thanks buddy. It's not an often thing. Maybe once a week at most. Sometimes I'll go a few weeks without anything.

Thanks buddy. Yeah it's a strange feeling, really can't describe it. There is no pain for me, and I've never had any heart issues or problems. Just every now and then I notice my heart missed a beat and it's just a strange, really slight weird feeling, almost like a sinking feeling in my chest but it doesn't hurt or alarm me.

palpitation can be described as any increase awareness of your own heartbeat. it may be faster, slower, regular or irregular heartbeats. murmurs are abnormal heart sounds that usually need a stethoscope to be detected. they usually mean an abnormal flow of blood in the chambers of the heart across the valves.

what you're describing sounds like drop beat or escape beat. it may be a form of ventricular ectopic beats. usually, the electric current of the heart starts at the atrium, spreads throughout the entire atrium in a coordinated pattern, crosses the AV node, and spreads over the entire ventricle in a fixed pattern. this causes the blood to be pumped from atrium into the ventricle and out of the heart in a fixed rhythm.

however if there is any delay in the conduction of the electric impulse from atrium to ventricle, blood starts to pool in the ventricle, a little more than usual because of the delayed ejection. a random point in the ventricle then fires off an impulse all by itself and spreads throughout the ventricle. this represents the delayed beat, which may be felt more forcefully than a regular beat because of the increased volume of blood that was waiting to be ejected.

everything then calms down and the atrium takes over again on the next beat and everything goes back to normal.

the things to be careful about are...
    1. you should do an EKG to be sure of the diagnosis. make sure there is no other cardiac pathology
    2. you need to know how often this irregular beat happens, whether its random and rare, or regularly every few beats. 5:1 is less dangerous than 2:1.
    3. you need to know whether its always the same part of the ventricle that takes over the beat, or different parts take over each time. always the same spot is safer than having various spots.
    4. also check your electrolytes to make sure there are no abnormalities that may affect the conduction of impulses across the heart muscles.

btw, i learn all this from Bonaparte

You have to know, not fear, that some day you are going to die. Until you know that and embrace that, you are useless.

Great post mate thanks. You might be right. It doesn't occur often at all. In fact, I never noticed it until maybe three years ago. It's maybe once a week at most, sometimes I'll go two or three weeks without noticing anything. It's pretty much my heart is beating normally, then all of a sudden I feel it skip a beat, and then when it starts beating again the first beat is always "harder" or more "firm" if that makes sense. Then it just goes back to normality. I've never had two in a row, or two in quick succession.

safest course of action, get an EKG. otherwise, we're all just guessing here.

    stay healthy!

It can be pretty normal, during times of stress or anxiety my heart skips beats far often. Alot has to do with the vagus nerve innervation from the SNS during times of stress.

Best to go see a cardiologist or get a ECG/EKG done.

    Funny...right?

Yea, my space here is in the TRT forum...it's where I can help men the most.

But coming over here from time to time is nice
