because it is almost immediately converted to sugar.
want proof?
put a piece of bread in your mouth and slowly chew it for 20 seconds or so. You will notice it will begin to taste sweet. This is because the enzymes in your mouth are easily converting the carbs into sugar. You can do the same thing with crackers, pasta.....
since it converts so rapidly into sugar, your body has no choice but to dump insulin in your blood stream to control blood sugar levels.
the idea is to manage blood sugar levels, not do a sugar dump all at once.
Let me know if you do not understand why we avoid sugar....Last edited by Times Roman; 08-19-2012 at 12:32 PM.

you have to understand the relationship between carbs and sugar. this is the progression
cellulose/cellulite > starches > complex carbs > simple carbs > sugars
we cannot digest cellulose, so it just passes through undigested. Starches are difficult to digest, so they digest very slowly. Sugars strung together form carbs. the longer the chain of sugars that make a carb, then the more complex the carb. carbs strung together make starches, and so on.....
pasta made with enriched flour, as 98% of it is, is a simple carb, and very easily converted to pure sugar
the longer it takes to digest a carb, the better off you are, as it provides a stable blood sugar level with minimal spikes and minimal insulin spikes.
if you go here
http://www.glycemicindex.com/
you can query the glycemic value of each food with carbs. the lower the number, the longer it takes to convert to sugarLast edited by Times Roman; 08-19-2012 at 12:39 PM.

when my diet is in sync, then NO, i do not eat pasta. or bread. i do eat carbs, which typically come from
rolled oats (old fashioned, no flavors)
brown rice (minimally)
yams/sweet potatos (whole, no butter)
this is actually a complex subject matter, that involves glycemic load (total amounts of carbs in meal eaten as a whole, which will tell you total sugar to be converted, and because of the other parts of the meal, the GV of the entire meal)
it is difficult to get variety due to the strict nature of the lifestyle we choose to have, so you can go here if you like and check out some recipes that will make your diet a little more interesting

My carb sources.
Buckwheat
Quinoa
Rolled Barley, eat it like oats
Sweet potatoe/yam
and of course fruits and veggies and squash etc.
A little bread here and there won't kill you. The ezekiel stuff is pretty tasty.

Does ezekiel really even count as a bread, I would compare it more to quinoa as a live sprouted grain and a complex carb, its also does not spike insulin like white or wheat bread does.

Obviously what is in the bread is what counts. I can't eat any wheat or oats right now. But if you can handle all the grains and things in it, and the carbs fit into your macros I don't see the problem. I think people obsess about some things a little too much personally. Look at Arnold for instance, he would occasionally eat a whole pie during contest prep.

Dont listen to people when they say dont eat bread. You CAN EAT BREAD, of course there are better sources of carbs but if you want to have bread get whole wheat/grains bread. Just make sure to look at the ingredients and check for whole wheat flour.
