    Any guitar players here?

Any of you guys play guitar?

Bought an electric guitar after a 10 year hiatus. Been getting into the really technical metal stuff (Lamb Of God mainly).

Started juicing again and I'm getting these retarded forearm pumps as I'm trying to play. A little annoying lol.

Warm up before you play. Start by stretching your fingers. Then play a good 10 minutes of Segovian scales. Look them up.

I don't really play much electric guitar anymore. I'm more interested in classical and flamenco guitar. But warming up is essential. It'll help with the forearm pumps and dead fingers to practice scales over multiple octaves. Also practice barred chords a lot, you'll feel it in that space between your thumb and index finger. Also the key to playing is on your left hand, you don't want the pressure on the strings to be coming from your thumb. your thumb should always be able to glide up and down the centre of the neck.

Yes, I like to play a variety of scales, ranging from rock to blues. I usually play at least 10-15 minutes on my acoustic before going to bed each night, permitting I'm not traveling. I have a US Deluxe Stratocaster, and a Clapton Sig "Blackie" Strat.

Tell us a little more about your guitar, and the amp/pedal switch(es) you're using. I recently picked up a Line 6 - 120W Spider III, and I'm quite satisfied with its capabilities.

Do you got scalloped frets on that deluxe strat? I used to have the Line 6 triple rectifier head and cab. Way too much power for my needs. The spider is more of a modeling amp though?

No, it's the standard fret, but I have the rosewood neck (Olympic Pearl). The "Blackie" has a gorgeous maple neck with the alder body.

Yes, the spider is definitely a modeling amp, but I personally like the sound over the tube amps. For playing around the house, I can get some crazy sounding presets with delays & chorus flange to match up to most of the music I like to play.

I'd say you're pretty proficient based on the type of music you're playing?

I've got 2 electrics (cort and Epiphone Slash Signature Les Paul) and an acoustic. I'm still very much a beginner though and have a lot of learning still.

Mostly hard rock. My favorite guitar player is Slash. Hence why I couldn't resist getting the Les Paul when it came out.

I still enjoy playing guitar after all the years. I didn't start playing classical guitar until college. It really consumed me, and I played less and less electric as I got more in to classical guitar. I'd say they're different instruments practically. I used to wield a JP signature Ernie Ball though. Now I play Cordobas almost exclusively.

OP, don't let us talking about our fancy axes influence you. It's really not the gear you use. I tell people Esteban will still sound as great as Esteban even on the cheap pieces of shit he sells on TV.

The most important thing to playing guitar isn't your technique or even your chops. It's your ear. So spend time training it every day.

I feel bad, as soon as I got serious into lifting, my guitars have been collecting dust, I have a spider III amp to and I do love it. I should really pick a guitar up and jam, it is a great stress reliever. Death Metal all the way!!

And I got a little 15w tube amp, it's a Kustom Defender v15. And a Metal Zone pedal. Like my little setup a lot.

how is your action on the finger board? I always liked a low action on my electrics to shred faster. On my classicals and flamenco guitars I keep my bass action at 4mm and my treble action at 3mm at the 12th fret (which is pretty standard now).

Can't tell you an exact height, I haven't messed with it. But I can tell you it's on the low side and needs to be fixed, my guitar is tuned in Drop D and my low string is buzzing which is kind of annoying.

It might not be the action. It could just be a truss adjustment and it'll be fine. You should take that axe in for a setup it'll cost like 15 bucks at most and they'll get rid of that buzzing.

$15?! I wish! Places around here are charging $75 for a cleaning, full setup with new strings. I'm not impressed right now.

Started using the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings for my Fenders. Twice the price at about $10 per set, but so far I really like the feel and sound of them. Extra slinky for me.

I tend to go with the Martin bronze for my acoustic.

Ive been playing for well more years than many of you are old *L* Sadly thats true.
I have several guitars. My current one of choice is 3 piece back Alvarez accoustic.
Prob the pride and joy of my guitar collection is mint 1962 danelectro (just like the one paige plays in KASHMIR but his is couple years older) and an early 60's fender tube amp.

So what's everybody's first axe? Mine was a Squirer strat that I bought for practically nothing at a pawn shop in '92. All that was wrong was it was it needed the wires re-soldered and a little wax in the pickups. Turned out to be one of my favourite guitars.

I use GHS Boomers 10-46 on mine. So far so good.

I only had one other axe when I was young (I think 12 or 13 years old?) and it was a used entry level Fender. Nothing to write home about. Played a lot of Nirvana and power chords on that guitar haha. I even had the undercut like Kurt Cobain. Ugh.

Eh people talk shit about Cobain and Nirvana a lot, but he made a lot of good songs. And Nirvana proved you didn't need to make anything complex for it to be good.

Mine was n acoustic Sear harmony Student model with a sunburst finish. I picked it up at a yard sale. I gave the thing away later only to find out it was actualy worth a few bucks. The thing was in great condition!
My first electric was an Epiphone Strat copy but ti had one double humbucker on it, which I liked being able to switch. I still have the guitar.

Just saw him in concert last month. One of the best shows I've ever seen. His music made me want to learn how to play. He is definitely one of the best guitar players, IMO.

So went and dropped my guitar off to get a setup done on it. While in the store, I started playing around with the MESA amps. I'm in love. This is gonna be expensive haha.

That's why I don't go into music stores much anymore. I always either buy something, or leaving wanting something I couldn't afford lol.

Is it the kind with the humbucker on the bridge spot? I'd love being able to switch from the neck position with single coils and playing typical strat sounding leads to the meatier rhythms on the bridge humbucker.

He was one of my guitar heroes growing up. Last time I saw him play live was when he was with that Snakepit band and he had the Ain't Life Grand album out. I don't usually listen to him that much now, but every now and then I'll give him a good listening.

The stuff he did with Miles Kennedy was alright, but when they were playing the GNR songs, it really reminded me how much Axl needs to just for one time have a GNR reunion.

I really liked the Velvet Revolver stuff and have seen him on both tours with Miles Kennedy. I agree that a GNR reunion would be amazing, but considering Axl Rose wouldn't even let fans into a show if they were wearing Slash merch, I doubt we'll ever get to see that. I don't even really consider Axl's new band to be GNR. To me GNR ended when Slash and Duff left.

The single that hit the radio here wasn't bad. I probably would have gotten into it a little more if he would have named the new band something different. That and his antics are really childish sometimes. The band definitely has skill though. I doubt we'll see any more albums from him, but then again no one believed Chinese Democracy would ever actually be released.

He's actually got 2 more albums worth of material done. It just needs to be mastered and released. I put Chinese Democracy up there with Use Your Illusions. It's a real departure from the old GNR sound though. Axl is a lunatic.

Maybe I'll have to give the album a chance. I'll just have to ignore that it says GNR on the album. I'd have a hard time separating the new sound from old school GNR otherwise. Plus it just feels too much like cashing in on the name when only one original member is left. As for the other albums though, I won't be holding my breath. You never know what Axl will do though.

Just remember, Slash wasn't an original member. He was just a replacement for Traci Guns

You guys ever write stuff down with Powertab Editor? I wrote this tune:
