Kid in my neighborhood with road rage

So about a week ago or so it was raining cats and dogs. I jump in my car to get to the gym around 8:30 pm. As soon as I pull out I notice a neighbor (whom I've never spoken to before), trying to push his stalled car into his parking spot as it was in the middle of the street. I saw at least 5 cars pass by and just went around him. I felt bad for the guy. He's struggling and soaking wet. So I park my car and run over there to help him. It was raining so hard and it was quite dark. So we finally get the car out of the street and into a parking spot.

I just waved and ran back to my car.

Well, today, I'm coming home from work and about to turn into my neighborhood. The same guy is behind me. Directly in front of me are 2 kids crossing the street, so I slowed down and stopped. I drive a large SUV and he has a G35 so he probably couldn't see the kids crossing. Anyway, he starts to honk repeatedly. As soon as the kids pass... I take off. At this point he had to have seen the kids and I figured he would understand why I stopped. Not so. He went around me very aggressively and flipped me off. He floored it and took off.

I knew he didn't know who I was as it was dark and raining the night I helped him. But I wanted to let him know. So I followed him to his house, a block away from mine. Parked my car and got out. He was just getting out of his car. This kid couldn't be more than 18 years old. You could instantly tell he began to get really nervous and probably regretting his decision to flip me off at that point. But I wasn't there for a fight. I said.. "Hey man.. remember when your car was stalled, and everyone drove right passed you? I was the guy that came over and helped you out. Just wanted you to know that." - the entire time there was an older gentleman in the garage starring at me. I assumed it was his father.

The kid let out a deep sigh. Looked disappointed. So I just turned around, got in my car and drove off.

About 10 minutes later he knocked on my door. The kid was VERY apologetic. Said he felt terrible and thanked me for helping him with his stalled car. I was shocked and happy to hear this from him. I told him no problem kid, you did the right thing in the end and that's all that matters. As he walked away, I noticed the older gentleman standing in front of my house. He looked at me and gave me a nod.

Kids will be kids, but it's really good to know that there are great parents out there. That had to be his dad and he had to have made him apologize.

You're a good dude idk if I would have been so nice about it haha. That's a good ending to the story though. Although, I feel like it would play out a little differently in a Long Island setting haha many loud mouth disrespectful kids that need a beating and parent who don't deliver it to them.

It's nice to see even over there parents share the values that I use with my kids
Although I really would like 10 mins alone with a gang of chavs that live nearby just to show them my fathers parental skills and how I was brought up.......,........

Nice. Good for you and good for his dad helping him do the right thing. We all do things out of emotion and not thinking about what might be happening. I TRY to think about those things especially when driving. Someone might be new/inexperienced driver, they may have a medical condition or emergency or most anything else so it's always best to not 2nd guess or judge.

I've got the worst case of road rage. You see me on here or on the streets, I'm a mild mannered man. Put me behind the wheel of a car and I'm constantly screaming obscenities at the morons in front of me. Thank God I have two middle fingers. I end up using both of them as I'm screaming at the moron who is going 60 in the fast lane, boxing me in behind him. Even those beta blockers I take that they raved about on Bigger Faster Stronger don't do shit to calm me down.

Very good point. I think a lot of people feel invincible behind the wheel.

Good story Aus. Nice to see the kid do the right thing. Even if his father made him, hopefully he learned somethin from it.

On a side note, I swore I saw "roid rage " in the title.. Read the whole thing n was thinking to myself, "I don't see any mention of steroids , odd" So I started to reread it n finally glanced up at the title again... hahaha

    Selective reading I guess..

Should have bitch slapped the kid in his own driveway. Then went in his house to unload on any witnesses, reminding them in the process that you know where they live if any 5-0 come knockin!!

Just kiddin, Buddy. You did good.

Good story, couldnt have turned out much better than that. I used to have road rage a bit when I was younger. I still bitch to my stearing wheel, but do my best not to engage with morons. I learned a valuable lesson years ago. I was on a motorcycle, cruising along minding my own business, or so I thought. Out of nowhere a pickup behind me passes me on the right in the ditch, gets in front of me, literally runs oncoming traffic off the road when he cut from dithc back to lane because he oversteered nad went into there lane. WE both exchange middle fingers in the process. Then he locks his e brake and slides sideways in front of me. I lock the brakes. HE jumps from his truck and charges me, I am sitting on my bike with my feet down. I didnt have time to get of bike and deal with him so I hit the gas and ducked to the tank, and hit him almost head on, a bit to the right. It ****ed him up, and casued me to cross oncoming traffic and end up on the curb. I dropped the bike and went toward him as I was pissed and assumed he would continue to engage. He hobbledd into his truck and took off. I got back on my bike and went to a friends house close by to cool off, I was shaking with adrenaline. When I got there and got off my bike I reallized I had a knife slice across my leather jacket, cutting on of my backpack straps. The dude literally tried to knife me and I am not even sure how I pissed him off. He got the worst of it, but ever since I try not to mess around as its just a stupid way to end up dead or in jail.....

Sounds like you and dad are both doing this kid right. I've heard before that it takes a village to raise a child. Glad to see there may be a little hope left for the human race, thanks to people like you.
