Got out of nyc just in time on an added flight yesterday night. If not for the added flight we'd have been stuck and kicked out of hotel/evacuated and not been able to fly home til thur at best. Don't know where we would have gone when hotel evacuated and lost power so really lucky got on added flight (that was not scheduled) last night before storm hit. When subway and all stores/subway/bars shut down last night at 7 it was time to gtfo. Really lucky.
God bless. Hurricanes in nyc are not meant to be.......

Good call. I heard they were charging HUGE fees for anyone wanting a flight the last couple of days. To bad they were taking advantage of people like that and not just adding extra flights. There was no reason to shut down the subways and transportation 24-48 hrs in advance though. To many people got stranded with no way out.

I'm sure he thinks so. Just watch, he will take credit for Sandy not being a category 5 hurricane and take credit for every person who is rescued in some way. I'm sure all the people who will find jobs doing construction to help rebuild will all be part of his job growth plan in some way. lol

Was listening to a Meteorologist Professor on the radio today and he said it's not so much the focussed power of the storm, he said it's the shear size. I mean I found out this thing is nearly as big as Europe, that's freaking massive.
Nearly 50 million people without power. That's almost the same size population as the UK.
I really hope you guys are "weathering the storm", pardon the pun. I heard it's now moving up towards Canada..

Its crazy out here. My area of the city was not too bad but I had to walk my dog at 10 pm last night and it was pretty freaking scary. No one on the street and I was trying to walk in the middle of the road let my dog do its business without getting smashed by a tree. I still have power and all of the trees by me have already been cleaned up.
My parents area was rocked. Huge trees down every where. No power. It seems like anything by the ocean was destroyed

As Hurricane Sandy blasts the eastern seaboard just over a week before Election Day, a number of conspiracy theorists have decided President Barack Obama engineered the mega-storm to secure his re-election.
InfoWars.com, TheIntelHub.com, and ConsfearacyNewz all posted stories over the last several days alleging that the The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, or HAARP, helped the president engineer Sandy.
[GALLERY: Superstorm Bring Dangerous Floods]
HAARP, a research program managed by the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy, studies and conducts experiments relating to the ionosphere, or upper atmosphere. As NASA explains on its web site, the ionosphere is important because it often reflects radio waves and scatters GPS signals, leading to "a big impact on communications and navigation" on Earth.
Because of this, conspiracy theorists have blamed HAARP for a number of natural events over the years, saying the government uses the Alaska-based program to manipulate the weather with the help of electromagnetic waves.

On Friday, InfoWars published a story arguing that Sandy "will undoubtedly produce widespread chaos and present an ideal opportunity for Obama to come off as a strong and decisive leader.
"Following the 'perfect storm,'" wrote Infowars' Kurt Nimmo, "the establishment media will naturally provide all the propaganda Obama needs to sweep the election on Tuesday, November 6, a week after the hurricane is projected to hit."
As proof, Nimmo noted that HAARPStatus.com, a site that claims to detect frequency on the ionosphere, is reporting unprecedented levels of HAARP frequency above the Eastern coast. HAARPStatus.com appears to be a site not actually associated with HAARP.

In a piece on the nonprofit web site Skeptic.com in March 2010, aerospace and computer engineer David Naiditch explained why he believes conspiracy theorists love to blame HAARP. "[It] is a gigantic, high-energy, Pentagon-funded gizmo located in the remote Alaskan wilderness that plays around with the Earth's ionosphere," he wrote, "but whose purpose seems deeply mysterious to the scientifically uninformed."
While there is no doubt Hurricane Sandy could help Obama's re-election prospects if he manages to weather the storm acting presidential, the mega-storm's effects on Americans could also help challenger Mitt Romney. As Mike Allen noted in Politico Playbook Saturday, quoting a Politico friend: "People emerging from a week of no power on Nov. 6 are going to be in a grumpy, foul mood—not the kind of mood that screams 'vote incumbent.'"

This ship was for sale in 2010 for 4.9 million and now lies at the bottom of the ocean. Another victim of Hurricane Sandy.
So just sit right back and you'll hear a tale a tale of a fateful trip. That started out one fateful day on a 3 hour tour. With the skipper and marian and all the rest. Right off the Jersey shore. The ship it is no more... Not tryin to make too much humor since 2 guys still are missing. Hopefully they are found and accounted for.

Got so lucky my house escaped major damage. We had to leave home cause of no power or heat. They're saying maybe by Wed. but could be 2 weeks. It sucks being displaced but we are all safe. Also there has been no work all week cause NYC is basically shut down with no power and no way in. It's hitting hard in every way possible. OIt's a disaster area around us, houses area destroyed, a house around the corner exploded, boats are in houses, boats are on lawns 3 blocks from water & boat docks were thrown into living rooms by a tidal surge. The Belmar boardwalk is no more, we are in one of the hardest hit areas! It will take time but we will be ok & thank God we are all safe & still here to talk about it. Attaching pics from around me.
