Reserving a bench
Does a non-disposable water bottle on a bench reserve it if there's no dumbells around and you havnt seen anyone there for 45-60 seconds?
When I go to take a piss I'll leave my water bottle on the bench I'm using and twice in the past week I've come back to someone that's moved my bottle and started using the bench. I personally would never do that unless I've noticed it not being used for 10+ minutes and its he only free one. Usually I'm polite about it when someone does this but this tren cycle has made me more... Confrontational.

Piss before you train.... If u need to go and piss u loose your bench IMO....
Depends what your gym is like tho..... No chance would I not use a bench if a bottle was on it lol.... The bottle would be gone.... Since I train HIT and low volume I could probably be done and gone by the time u get back from taking a leak lol

I waited 5 minutes the other day for an adjustable bench while the guy took a piss. He eventually comes back and says he was done he just left his stuff there. That pissed me off
I agree with the pissing before. Its the first thing I do when I walk in so I wont have to while im lifting. And a water bottle by a bench looks like someone just forgot it. It does not look like a reservation. If I leave a bench to get a sip of water I throw my towel on the top signifying I am not done yet

leave a note that looks like a girl wrote on it that says BRB with a smiley face and leave it there then when you come back wink at the dude who's waiting and go about your workout

They took forever!!! Talking a ton and even talking while lifting. I was upset cause I was in the middle of chest wk out.

two birds with one stone bra lol
To me if you go take a piss you lost whatever machine you were on. Yesterday I was supersetting pec deck with cable flys. Fat trainer brought fat lady over to use pec deck and I lost my spot. I look at it like he has to train her and get her ass out the door by a certain time so if I'm not on the machine he can jump in.

you cant "reserve" anything as far as im concerned. Esp with a water bottle. What makes your time more valuable than mine?

reserve no. But i dont think you should loose it if 45 seconds. Hell if its busy it may take that long to goto the db rack and be able to grab another pair.
If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

Yesterday a guy came in while I was exchanging DBs and stood over top of my bench texting. He was wearing a Tshirt that was cut so much down the side that it looked like a prom dress. Just the neckband and a strip down the front. He is one of the "jacked" guys at my gym, back hair and all. Anyways, I figured I wouldnt say anything and rest for a few more seconds. I went to get some water, came back, the bench had his phone and towel sitting on it. He was standing beside it doing curls with a an EZ bar. I got mad about it. I guess he wasnt used to people confronting him being the size he is, especially as small as I am in comparison. But I told him to get his shyte off the bench because I had another set to do. He stared at me for a second, then I told him to go put his belongings on the shelf up front(where they are supposed to go). He quickly stopped curls and got his stuff and went on. He came back and apologized. I told him it was all good, but some of us are busy and dont have time to let people use the equipment as furniture. And I am not on tren , just TRT. lol.

Agree with Jimmy and Gixx. I see a lot of equipment sitting there with a towel draped over and a water bottle, sometimes for several minutes. IMO, if you're going to go away from the equipment for any longer than 3-4 minutes, then give it up, let someone else use it and come back. You can always go back and finish up later. It won't kill you or hurt your session to move to something else and come back. I usually work out with a buddy anyway so this generally isn't a problem but I could see why it would be annoying if you left for 60 seconds to make your bladder flatter and someone jumped in on the equipment. If this happens, why not ask if you could work back in to finish a set or two.
I get more annoyed at the guy who thinks he needs to be at a piece of equipment for half an hour or more or needs to do a 1000 sets or something ridiculous!!!

I understand people are in a rush, arn't we all? Whose says that someones time is more valuable than others? But if im there first and step away for under a minute because I have to piss I beleive its common curtosy to let me finish my exercise.
Where do you draw the line? Scope out people until they go to grab a drink at the water fountain and move their shit and take their machine?

...and this is exactly why I will wait, maybe, one minute before moving someone's stuff and using the bench.
People constantly put their stuff down on a bench NEXT to what they are doing and then walk off and leave it. I constantly walk up to the only bench not being used and it is piled with a hoodie, towel and water bottle. I have learned to ask the guy on the next bench if that is his stuff. He usually apologizes and moves his stuff.

I always take a piss before a workout. Even if I dont need one, I never seem to have the urge to piss and I drink a LOT OF WATER during a workout cause im pissing like a race horse for the rest of the day.
If I need to be away from my bench for about 60 seconds cause I need to go get a plate or a handle for a cable, then I'll put my water bottle and locker key on the bench. But damn, if someone went to take a piss and was expecting the same bench to be available when they get back, they should be so lucky.
If I see something not being used, like a bench or a machine or a bar, if there is someone near by I will always ask if someone is using it.

I never leave a piece of equipment I'm using for longer than a few seconds. I never walk off to do something else because my gym is busy. I work out quick and get out. I can't stand the guys that are "supersetting" with something across the gym. I tell them tough shit do one then the other

I had some fatass in a skin tight under armour shirt who thinks hes ripped try to steal my bench when I was exchanging preloaded bars. I had the incline bench turned backwards for incline barbell rows, and I go to grab my next weight and here this fatass is picking up my bench trying to jack it when my sweatshirt, towel, and workout/diet log were sitting right behind it (not to mention I was away from it for less than 10 seconds). I told him I was still using it in a pissed off tone and he literally had a shitfit and dropped the bench from two feet in the air. I hate those kind of people. Dude honestly looks like he binges on donuts 24/7 and has never touched any type of cardio machine once in his entire life.

If you walk away from the bench it's up for grabs. I have taken many towels off equipment and started using them only to have someone come back and look at me funny but not say anything.

i suppose its fair to say i treat benches and machines with 2 difft protocols. benches take more time to get in and out. machines u can jump in, get it done, and move on. most of the time if something is occupied i need i figure out something else to do unless its a machine and i will work myself in if i have to.
BTW ive never scoped another guy out in the gym for any reason!

At least where I'm at people leave f-ing water bottles and towels laying around all over. Probably the same assholes who don't put the weights back. If there was someone near I'd ask if the bench was free, but otherwise I'd probably just think "another prick!" and take it off and use the bench.
My pet peeve is still people who think the equipment is a hangout spot. I've waited for people thinking they're resting in between sets or something, only to realize after a little while that they're only using it as a lounge chair.

Rule of thumb with free weights such as bench if the weights are still on it it's in use. You clear it when your done. Nothing worse than jack aases that wont rack their weight. I will rack that shyt for ya...on your fkn head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The shit you guys have to put up with is pretty bad. Counting myself lucky now that my only issue at my gym is this.

Ive been going to the same gym for years so I either know the other people or they know someone I know so I always try to be respectful and non-confrontational. There was one guy like 8 years ago that came at me one time. I jumped on a cable machine he had been using. There was no one around and I thought the station was available. He came at me with some smart ass comment I don't even remember the exact words but it was one of those "I guess thats how you were raised huh" type comments. It was wierd because it took me a minute to figure out he thought I took his machine. Like a year ago I am out with a meathead friend and my friend knows this guy and says hi to him. I still remembered the disrespect after 8 years and didn't bother acknowledging him.

As we're all having a rant I will add to it...
Last night I wanted a bench for scull crushers and they were all in use... One bench had a barbell layed across one end... I asked the guy if he was using the bench... He replied "yeh got one more set"....
So I stand around and wait for him to have his long rest period (WTF is with people having 3 min rest periods LOL) and then it happened.... He approached the bench and the one end, picked the barbell up and started curling.... Man I could have fukin blown right then.... I just stared at him while he did his set and then when he was done acted supprised and said "so was that all then"....
It's a bench not a barbell rack you fukin moron.... Piss off...

This makes me want to get started on the multi equipment hogs. Fuk heads in groups of 4 curling at the squat rack, doing biceps on the lat cables, and racking 4 sets of dumbells on a flat benck ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!!
