Did after long endurance cardio days to help with my legs. Also did Epsom baths. They both help
    IMO

The Russians used to (not sure if still) take ice baths inbetween every "match" in the Olympics. They said it took out the stess on muscles, put you back where you where before you competed or something like that.

I have been reading studies that show results and studies that say its pointless.
What I do know if after a strenuous workout or cardio are muscles, tendons, ligaments are tired, sore and can often.be inflamed to a minimal degree and our body deals with it.

I was more looking for personal experience

    Thanks lunk and redh

I'm no expert and have done no research but I believe ice baths are to reduce lactic acid in the muscles post exercise....

Achieving this by pulling blood out of the extrmities to your core.... Pulling with it lactic acid...

Sum1 tell me if I'm wrong.... Interesting thread tho.....

I'd like to train legs and the ice bath one leg and see the difference the next day lol

I think you should experiment on yourself and let us know.

I think the lactic acid reduction claim is a bit like the 30 min post workout 'window' but I could be wrong.

Endurance athletes use them to stop the muscles 'bleeding' after a strenuous session to assist with recovery.

Where you gonna get all your ice from?
    NO SOURCES GIVEN

    Cayenne
    Ginger
    Garlic
    Oregano

if you do decide to jump into the wheelie bin, you may want to remove the grass clippings and orange peels ahead of time?

    ....just a thought! =)

Seems Stanford Univ has developed cooling gloves to help with recovery. I know it's not exactly what you guys are discussing but it's still a cool idea. Pun intended. ?

I don't believe it has to be that cold to be effective.... I'd say cold water would be effective enough....

That is what a lot of the Pro athletes do from what I have heard/read.

It really needs to be colder than that to work properly. Needs to be near freezing.

To do it properly it should be VERY cold such as an Ice bath and you submerse the offending body part fully for a couple of minutes then do the same in a HOT bath. Repeat several time.

I have done this on my own but using ice packs and heat packs vie freezer and microwave and I think it helped quite a bit. If you can not do this ice alone for 20 - 30 min on, 20 - 30 minutes off. Repeat at least 3x in a row and 3x a day works very good. It has helped my shoulder and my back recover especially my sciatic nerve in my lower back. I also used it a while back when I had one of the most painful cramps in my upper back/neck and it was 50% better by end of day and 80% the next.
