Go with a car that's going to last!!
I guess I should say, go with a car that won't be in the shop for repairs once a month!

My most favourable bmw, is the bmw series 1 m coupe.
If i had the chance i would def pick one up for myself.
But than again i would think wisely about investing in a car like a bmw, with cost high on these cars, im sure you could keep the money for better investments while your studying, and just pick yourself up a moderate to decent car.Money is hard to come by these days and the cost of living is mind boggling.

You don't buy a BMW, you lease them.

I do like Audi but BMW is a fantastic quality vehicle. 335xi or the M1 would be my pick. I drove and 135I and it was retarded fast and handled really well. I can only imagine what kind of beast the M series version of it is.

no point buying an M model in the newer years cause a chip, downpipe and exhaust on the 08-10 turbo models will destroy the M versions of the same platform. My buddy bought a 2010 135 and for less than 5G he has just over 500lb tq to the wheels. Its a missle....
With that being said, you really have to like electronic control to buy the new euro vehicles. Im more for when they were a little more Raw... I absolutely love my DD which is an Mtech edition E39 M5 in Lemans blue... Its not nearly as powerful as my E63, but so much more fun.
just my $0.02

Disagree.. once you put 100k miles on a BMW you are really rolling the dice everytime you pull out of your driveway imo from what I have seen and heard.
That said I would look at the 1 series BMWs that they put the 6 cylinder twin turbo 300 horsepower engine in. The engine won some awards and it is the best luxury bang for buck last I checked.

Once out of warranty, these cars cars are very expensive to fix if something goes wrong. Besides, they're way over-rated IMO...

As a retired mechanic who has drag raced everything from 600+ inch nitrous BBC's to Blown Hemis I definately have roots with American cars. That said I would never disrespect a BMW, they have very solid suspension subassemblies well isolated from very solid monocoque (body/chassis) this allows them to handle very well without transmitting all the road irregularlities to the driver/interior. As also mentioned the I6 twin turbo was a really well engineered engine far ahead of its time for performance and fuel efficiency.
However as many have mentioned the BMW is a complex car with expensive parts and the amount/cost of service certainly reflects this. But if you like the car and are willing to accept this look for one that has a single owner who has not beat on it and the cost of ownership will be far less than if you get one owned by a boy racer or an ex lease car that has had the shit beat out of it with minimal service. Like any high tech car if you do buy one and can do it yourself of have a friend who is handy fluid changes will way more than pay for themselves once you hit the 5-8 yr old mark...things like antilock/transmission/engine,radiator,coolingsystem/powersteering and other repairs will be almost non existant with proper fluid maintenance and a normal driving style.

FFM thank you lol. Proper maintenance does wonders in these cars. If you baby them somewhat they WILL last.

I like that they share the same chassis so it makes parts easier to source... I was lucky enough to find a low milage Soarer when I was in Japan (14 miles/22km) and an original 5spd car. Only 1J powered but with a few bolts ons it did great things. So much lighter than the SC300/400 that we got here cause the JDM models dont have all that garbage like safety crash beams which add a ton of weight

American vehicles have their place... when you want to buy something, never do an oil change and get the most out of a vehicle while putting in next to no maintenance, American is the way to go. They already have the low resale value regardless of condition so you may as well bag on it.
PS- this was not even said as a joke, Im dead serious

i have a 2007 335i sedan. i love that baby. i loved it more when i still had warranty. haven't had any major repairs since the warranty expired a couple of years ago until last month. had to replace water pump, alignment, replace bushings for the suspension, new mechatronics sleeve, fix an oil leak, and 2 new tires. 4 grand, baby!

Personal attacks ay? Yea well at least i had the balls to do 2 overseas deployments for my country willing to give it all away so my fellow australians can live safely Thats Called forward defence not that you would no anything about that. You just make up excuces so you can avoid service. Your even worse than soilders who are not infantry at least there still doing something usefull. I hope you develop that disorder were you cant stop cutting yourself.
