Was in Aruba the past week and missed the wonderful nor easter storm. I am coming home tomorrow and not thrilled.


Put the girlfriend to bed at midnight every night and then put some serious time at the black jack tables. I pretty much had my whole trip paid but I gave $200 back tonight cause I didnt want to bring a lot of money which is stupid becuase 200 is not enough to go on a succesful run. I am downloading my shows for the plan ride home tomorrow.

Here is a trick to counting the deck of cards and some theory behind it.

Theoretically when there are more 10's in the deck, it's more favourable to the player and when there are more lower cards in the deck, it is more favourable to the house. It's simply because with more lower cards the house has more ways to make their hand.

It's important to note that the house has it's advantage because of two things. First, you're trying to beat the house's hand, the house isn't trying to beat your hand. And secondly, you play your hand first. This creates a huge disadvantage to the player. How can you know what hand you're trying to beat when you're going first? This is the sole reason why the house has a slight edge on the player.

Now as I said before the more 10's in the deck the more they help the player and the more lower cards the more it helps the house. If you know this, you can adjust your bet so that you're betting more when the deck is in your favour and less when it isn't.

Now there is an easy way to track this occurence. A simple count on the deck. there are cards that for our sake we'll call neutral 2, 7, 8, 9, A and we'll ignore those (the ace we'll eventually track later on in follow up posts but for now ignore it). Take a deck of cards and pull out the jokers and follow these steps:

start your count at 0
for every 3, 4, 5, or 6 card you see when you turn over cards one by one add 1 to this count
for every card worth 10 (10, J, Q, K), subtract 1 from this count.

Practice this a few times making sure you don't say the count outloud or lip the count (this is very important)

You're going to notice that by the time you finish the deck, you're going to end back at 0 every time (supposing you counted right)

This is called a running count.

Now setup a blackjack game with your cards. burn one card before you start dealing. what you have to do is keep track of the running count and divide it by the amount of the deck remaining (with a single deck, estimate this by going down 1/4 decks IE: 1 deck 3/4 deck 1/2 deck. with a double or decks more use increments of 1/2 decks like 2 decks 1.5 decks 1 deck .5 decks). This is called a True count.

Every point in the true count that you're in the positive, bet an extra unit. let's say you're at a $5 table and you're betting unit is $5, if the true count = 1 or less you bet $5 if the count is 2 you bet $10. 3 you bet $15 and so on. If the true count is deep in the negative, you might want to go to the bathroom. Also you jump your bet to more than 5 units. the dealer is instructed to yell "cheques play" when you do that.

If you guys want to learn, I can keep going and maybe teach you to do the Ace count as well.

Thats the truth. Luckily I got one that likes saving money more than gambling. I never got into Baccarat but playing Pia gow Poker is fun, especially if you know how to play with tiles.
