What would you pay for this?

So speaking strictly in terms of the build of the fireplace and the paint, not the firebox or the tile to be added later to the hearth, what would you expect to pay for this?

My folks had this done about 4 years ago. I'll have to ask them what they paid.

Yeah I liked it too. It was designed by an architect named Chad Castellano.

cool.. i used to do flooring (hardwood install, sand, and finishing) and i recall the trim carpenter would often build hearths and they were fairly pricey.. more than i wouldve thought.. a lot depends on how many cuts and stuff..

Yeah for sure it would. There are definitely many components on this fireplace. Any shot at cost? Ball park?

no clue dude.. id be scared to even ballpark u man.. it would not surprise me to see it go for $1500-2k (this number comes straight out of my butt!)

i could be way off.. ur best bet to make sure u dont get ripped off if u can get a plan is to send it to several different people for estimates..

the other thing to consider is its painted which means its paint grade wood more than likely and the detail doesnt have to be quite there as if it were stain grade.. paint can cover up a bunch of shit!

That's a reasonable price, I would see it go for more than that personally but I am in love with it so I'm biased.

And you're right it is made of MDF with a spruce frame built beneath it.

The paint makes it look just flawless.

Assuming its not a quality wood as it has been primed, I would not pay more than $800... it literally looks like MDF finished nicely and presents well... thats about it

Im not knocking the quality, just stating that it really is just clean cut 1x4 and 2x4 MDF slats. But, if its someone famous for doing stuff, it could easily go for $4-5K

All it takes is getting your work noticed and the moment you have a waiting list, price goes up at least 300%... I happen to be lucky enough to live in a province where, due to the oil supply, we tend to spend way too much money just for convenience. My friends Granite company grew 2 fold in 8 months 5 years back and they already need a new 2nd facility and just built the current one 2 years ago. The more orders he takes, the more the next one costs...

Not sure what things are like 500km west, but you know how ridiculous things here got the last 8 years.

Its amazing from my point of view!

My business partner built his house on Vancouver Island and it was $625,000 on the market then. Now he's trying to flog it for $479,999

My condo dropped in assessed "tax value" by the city... down almost 70G over 2 years ago.

I considered retiring out there in Van, but I think kelowna is more realistic and my kind of place, less hippies

Yeah its been steep ride for sure.

I cant believe how strong Alberta is in some towns. Its like a different country.

Sorry to hear about the loss in the value of your condo but if it makes you feel better a friend of mine is sitting on 2.5 million worth of mortgaged homes not selling:S

Thats a relief! You're better off than most then brother.

No i'm not in the market to buy one. I was digging through old pics on my pc and came across this old gem and wanted to see what people outside the trade might presume it to be worth...
I was bored at the time.

In reality in 2009 it was valued at $1800 contract value with the paint. Only reason was the commissioning by the design firm. Otherwise I imagine your $800 would be a likely figure because the region was so weak.

Here in Alberta I bet I could ask for the $3-5k and people would bite...

btw it was flawless all around even without paint. In rough times all you have is your rep.
