Who was/is your favorite bodybuilder
A slightly different take on questions that have been asked before...
Who is (past or present) your favorite bodybuilder and WHY? Doesnt have to be the biggest, freakiest mofo, maybe someone who trains a certain way, is very personable to meet etc...
I will start...
When I was younger, of coarse the Austrian Oak, Mr. Schwarzenegger (mainly for his superhuman physique to an impressionable youth)
but lately Ive been coming around to Dorian yates. When I first got into weight training, he was the man on top of the world with his run of Olympia titles, but at the time he seemed like a pompous ass so I was more interested in the runners up like Flex, Levrone and even fellow Canadian Dillet.
Not sure if I would call Yates my favorite bodybuilder just yet, but I really like his approach to training with fewer working sets, but serious intensity...

Arnold hands down. Would he be as successful if he competed today? Not unless he was a whole lot leaner and harder but it's more of the idea of Arnold than anything else that makes him stand out.
If I'm going by the look of the bodybuilder, for me probably Kevin Levrone. But then again Ronnie was just ridiculously awesome...unreal!
Personally, how the guy trains or what all he does doesn't factor into it for me.

Tbh flex Lewis
I saw a documented on the guy about 2 years ago which triggerd me to get back into the gym and lose weight then I started to read about Dorian Yates and then came my "seeing the light" moment and I found the forum and so many ppl have given me excellent advice so I could include Marcus steM stpete lunk cape and many others but if I hadn't seen the tv programme on Lewis I wouldn't be here today ;-)
Thanx all you guys

If the way a guy trains is factored into who your favorite is then Flex Lewis is probably one of the most hardcore around. There are very few who train as intensely as he does and I don't think too many people pro or otherwise could last training like he does. His split is, however, very different than most people's. He splits his training into 7 training sessions, so it takes more than a week to get though one rotation when you consider off days, but each session is brutal. For those wondering how he splits it:
Day 1: Back
Day 2: Chest
Day 3: Hamstrings, Glutes and Calves
Day 4: Biceps
Day 5: Triceps
Day 6: Quads & Calves
Day 7: Shoulders
This order is not necessarily the actual order of body parts and does not take into account rest days, but should give you a good idea. And if doing say Triceps all on their own day sounds like a weak or pathetic workout, consider this. Flex has a triceps workout that often begins with a giant set of 4 movements:
Rope Press downs: 30 reps
Rope Press downs: (this is just straight up and down, no flare at the bottom) 30 reps
Over Head Cable EXT: 30 reps
V-Bar Press downs: 30 reps
Reverse Grip Press downs: 30 reps
This is one set, he repeats it 3 times...(rest between each set until his training partner completes his and then he goes again. From there it's normally 2-3 more exercises, some straight sets, some high rep and some very different things.
Another good sample is his quad workout, he'll often start on leg ext with several warmup sets, 3-4 warm up sets. The actual training starts with around 150lbs, 15 reps holding each rep at the top for about 2 seconds and squeezing hard then drop down to 135 and repeat, then 110lbs and repeat. From there there's a light set where he leans forward pushing up on the seat with his hands to where his but is no longer in the seat and pumps out 20-30 more. That's one set and he'll do that 3 times and then go to squats or something like that. This isn't how he always does it but it should begin to give those who don't know about his training how hard and brutal his training is. For most people, this would be severely overtraining the way he trains but it seems to work well for him.
If you want to train like Flex, give his glut/ham exercise a try. Here's a sample video, but he often takes his head all the way to the floor where this video does not. Either way it's one of the hardest exercises on earth. First few times I did it I could only do 5-6 without having to cheat. (sorry, couldn't find a Flex video doing it but the sample's good)

Serge Nubret; awesome blend of symmetry and size. I prefer the 'classic' look of the 70s.
