Lamar Smith wants congressional guidelines to replace peer review for federal science

SOPA author Lamar Smith wants congressional guidelines to replace peer review for federal science research | The Verge

To cut it short, the guy who was the driving force behind things like SOPA, wants to change the way the American government funds scientific research. The fact that this guy does not believe in climate change or evolution and is a self confessed, "Christian Scientist" is worrying.

He is also pretty much saying that science projects should only be funded if they turn a profit.

This in my opinion is not a good thing. The fact he flat doesn't believe in massive chunks of science and wants to DISMISS PEER REVIEWED SCIENCE JOURNALS for Governmental Guidelines is bad.

EDIT: Here is a video of him dismissing evolution. You cannot have someone like this having supervision about scientific research. America is part of the West. Leave the superstitious nonsense to the Middle East, it's why technology will always be their achiles heel

In my opinion, regardless of scientific facts being facts or not isn't the argument that needs to be made. The only argument is should the government fund this type of research or not? I say no. The private sector always does a better job as this is where there's an incentive for scientific advancements.
