Nice to hear someone give God the credit!! Sure, you're the one who did it, but He is the one who is/was helping you along the way. Ppl can call God a crutch, but I'd be dead if not for him.

Congratulations 405. I celebrated 18 months on April 25th. And now I'm blessed enough to work in a treatment center. I'm a grateful recovering addict. And its always nice to hear when someone who was in similar shoes pulls through and accomplishes years of recovery. I wish you the best and this just goes to show, WE truly can recover. And I say WE because we can't do it alone. Cheers to many more years.

and the damn thing is that, no matter how long sober, that beer waiting for you always seems to be in the back of your mind, like a damn ghost to haunt you.
I've have/had an addiction, and after 20+ years clean, I find my mind dwelling on it from time to time.
It's not an easy road, mate. But you have to remain strong!
Good luck!

thx TR but to be honest man, the Lord has removed the desire to drink from me. i attribute it to the fact that prior to becoming a christian i was not happy with how i felt sober. i didnt know thats what was going on but i can look back now and see it. the reason being God put a desire in me to know Him and have a relationship with Him that i misidentified as a desire to get intoxicated because i thought it filled the void that could only be filled by Him. my wife simply referred to it as i needed to fill my God-shaped Hole. she was a christian when i met her and could see the problem a lot more clearly than i could. it was not until i found the Lord (or He found me) that this desire was put to rest and now i am content.

Whatever works for you 405. In the end as long as you are content and happy where you are in your life, then that is great. 5 years is a life time in addiction years to be clean and sober. So you are well on your way and an example to all that it can be done whether you use god or he uses you to get you that inner peace you strive for. Just remember on any bad days that "This Too Shall Pass".

405, now that you've hit the 5 year mark, can you please let us in on how to convert fat into muscle? We've waiting long enough......

This is a accomplishment most can't comprehend or ever realize. Only God can do for us what we can't do for ourselves. OUTSTANDING 405! This kind of thread gives many hope and inspiration. It did for me!

Congrats again 405.
TR I know what you talk of but I never think about it. My obsession has been lifted 100%, by the practice of spiritual principals and my conscious contact with God.
I am an addict and always will be, because I have an allergy. I am allergic to alcohol and opiate drugs. I’ve said this before. Much like the person allergic to penicillin, or sulfa, when they take it they get violently ill. In a few hours or days their body changes and they might die.
When I ingest any alcohol or opiate drug my body gets sick, ill right then. My body reacts and wants for more and my mind and my mood change immediately. THEN after that I have no control and I am sick, ill, not the same man as the one without the alcohol. I become a mad man. This is why I’ll always be an addict, because I have an incurable allergy. Many people don’t have the allergy and can have one, two or more and not get sick. They are not addicts.
We 405 you and I and some others know this and we have a choice as to the first drink, dose etc… We have that God contact 405. You have that contact and it changed your life as you told us. I know you worked hard for that contact with your God. You took the affirmative action to meet Him and to let his will be yours. Thanks for sharing and letting us (me) know who you are.
Praise God and thank the loved ones and the friends that were your support to help expel your obsession. For this 405 you are blessed. Good Job. …crazy mike

Keep up the good work 405! The bottle has ruined many of the men in my family. I was lucky to find a woman to get me straightened out early in life. Hate to think where life would have gone without her and the big guy upstairs.

We should have a thread for people in recovery if that is cool with everyone just to discuss things about where we are does anyone else agree if so ill make one this is a great thread and congrats again 405, I was just talking to someone on here about not being sure to post about my addiction problem so this really made me feel alot better about it. I have been I recovery a long time now but don't have all that time sober so I know the struggles and like to talk them out.

Interesting to see how many guys who are addicts have found body shaping as a positive outlet.
I pray every day for God to help the true love of my life and bring her back. Alcoholism is the shittiest disease.

Good job, 405. I'd buy you a Pepsi Zero.
I stopped drinking and using drugs several years ago. To me, I just lost the desire to do them. I don't think I was addicted, because I had no dependency neither physically nor emotionally. I think it partially had to do with my mother's heart attack. I just wanted to be a little healthier. I even cut out quite a bit of the junk food I ate.

Great job, I quit drinking for good too it's only been a few months but I just like being in control. I feel good about it, I don't crave it but I know I drink too much when I do. Best decision I've ever made.
