Reporter Michael Hastings killed hours after cryptic email about FBI surveillance
Michael Hastings Sent Email About FBI Probe Hours Before Death (UPDATE)
Michael Hastings Dead at 33 | Politics News | Rolling Stone
This is the guy who published the story in 2010 in Rolling Stone which ended General Stanley McChrystal's career. He sent a cryptic e-mail to his friends at 1 p.m. Monday, warning them to retain legal counsel if the FBI asked questions about him, and saying he had to "drop off the radar" because of a big story he was doing, at 4:00am this morning he was killed. Appearently, he was going 100+MPH down a side street in Los Angeles when he crashed into a Palm Tree, and his Mercedes C250 exploded upon impact, engulfing him and the car in flames. Draw your own conclusions.

I have been listening to this story as well.
From what I have read and heard on talk radio, he did not seem to be the type of person that goes around driving 100 plus mph at 4am.
Yeah Sholva, def seems like part of a movie.
I hope some more facts come out about this.

I'm sorry. Cars generally do NOT explode on impact!
Where's the engine? in the front? what explosive material would there be?
What about gasoline? Gasoline burns, not explodes. Gasoline vapor explodes, but you'll only have a few "gallons" of volume in the tank, depending....
Exploding cars is a Hollywood stunt. Not a real world event. Or at the very least, extremely rare.
My dad retired after 30 years on the fire department in a heavy volume city, and in 30 years, he said he never saw, nor was aware of a car exploding on impact.

I read somewhere recently, I think car and driver that it is relatively easy for a person (or shady fvcking government) to hack a car and control everything. The radio, brakes, accelerator, windows, etc.... The car and driver piece was following a government story. I don't have anywhere near the same faith in this lousy government and would put nothing past them.

You guys really believe all this cloak and dagger conspiracy crap? C'mon Godfather, you are way smarter than that. Dude likely committed suicide as he seemed quite unstable.

Not necessarily 'conspiracy' as in big elaborate scheme involving whole agencies but yes, I do believe certain government employees kill people and make it look accidental.

There is a difference between intelligent curiosity or skepticism and outright paranoia. I will admit this story has me intrigued, but there are WAYYY too many "conspiracies" out there. It is very easy to scare people into believing ridiculous things. I mean the conspiracy about FEMA camps? Give me a break. There are people that seriously believe aliens control the government too. Should those people be commended for having "independent thought"? Where do you draw the line between sensible skepticism and paranoia? The government is far from being 100% honest and uncorrupt, but there are way too many people out there that take it to the extreme.

A former high ranking NSA employee came out right after this happened to say that cars with fly by wire systems, for instance, my car which has no mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and drive train, and no mechanical linkage between the accelerator and motor, can indeed be hacked and controlled remotely. Two separate university studies concluded as much.
I didn't allege any sort of conspiracy theory, I did advise people to draw their own conclusions. I am not a conspiracy theorist, as you well know. I just think the circumstances of his death are highly suspect, and I think further investigation is warranted. I don't like to speculate about these things, which is what conspiracy theorists do, they ASSUME that its 'the government,' and make wild leaping assumptions without factual evidence. In THEORY, it is possible to hack into a car remotely and control many of its functions. It's not very plausible, and likely requires a HUGE degree of technical prowess. It is in all likelihood a tragic accident, and my best guess as to what happened, is that the gentlemen became extremely paranoid, likely felt he was being followed by another vehicle, and in his attempt to lose the vehicle he may have believed was following him, lost control while driving erratically, as is easy to do for a person who is untrained in driving a vehicle at high speeds down normal road surfaces. Posting the article and his death however, was WORTH mentioning, he contributed a great deal to transparency regarding our foreign policy, and successfully ended the career of an Army General.
