we've come along way as a society. in my time, we had busing (but not where I was at), we had martin luther king on one end of the spectrum, the black panthers (just a couple miles up the street from me) on the other.

We had skin heads, neo nazis, blokes with swa stikkas on T shirts in high school. Pretty extreme by today's standards. Not so extreme back then.

Blacks hung out in front of B hall, mexicans in front of C hall (chicanos, i guess), and since whites and phillipino's didn't have a W hall or a P hall, we just hung out in the parking lot.

We've had gang fights (low riders vs. the high riders for example)

My point is this. We've come quite the distance since I was a kid. but then there are the older generation, like MY dad, that still openly uses the N word (but not in front of my kids...).

So this is a generational thing. Things calm down when the older generation dies off, leaving behind a more enlightened younger generation. But let me warn the younger crowd, your "enlightenment" is the result of a lot of blood and pain paid by my generation. We paid a high price for your enlightenment. But you also have a price to pay for your kids enlightenment, albeit not as much as my generation. Hopefully, within then next generation or so, we'll be past this white/black thing, and be able to move on. it will never be perfect, but nobody is telling you it would be either.

So stop your gawdam grandstanding, and stop stirring up the shit.

This racial thing was a huge open wound in our society, and like all wounds, takes a long time to heal.
