Todays video games are just unbelievable. I had no idea.

I knew that just like anything else, video games evolved into much better graphics and with the development of newer machines/consoles, they run smoother and faster. But I honestly had NO idea how much they've improved. It's no wonder people of all ages are becoming addicted to video games. I've seen commercials and glanced at some footage, but I never really thought to look into them, until today.

The last video game I remember playing was boxing, and it looked like this...

Today, I watched this entire video of what is apparently an introduction to a video game made entirely of actual game footage. Unbelievable detail in the terrain and all the graphics. Just mind boggling. Almost makes me want to start playing. I think I'd probably just get frustrated because I wouldnt know how to control these things.

When did the "bad guys" become the home team? I recall Karateka, it was always the good guys fighting the bad guys... Crazy evolution...

I can't tell if you're serious or not... I used to be in the top 100 ranked players worldwide in the origional Call of Duty Modern Warfare. I literally played several hours a day and would drink and play with friends all night. Idk how many millions of players there were worldwide.

I'd get a kick out of watching you play online the first time. When some 6yr old curb stomps you and call your mom a whore. Those little kids are the worst!

Wow. It's hard to believe but it just goes to show differing lifestyles. I lost interest a few years ago, but it's amazing how intricate it is. Like playing and deciding the path of your own movie.
Really want to play The Last of Us. Given your want to see world war Z look into that. Heard it was phenomenal

Well this game in the video seems pretty complex. I'll be totally lost. But I might make a new hobby here. Thanks for the insight, chive!

Lol this ^^^ it's a drug almost. I don't touch online MMORPGs for a reason... I mean. I have 3 characters on skyrim that are over 100hrs played a piece. And that's one game. You end up wasting a lot more time than its worth

It's basically an interactive movie. You don't have to ever play any other of the series to be able to "get" what's going on in this one.

If you do choose to get an xbox or ps3, since the new consoles will be out soon, you're better off picking up a used one at a pawn shop and save some money.

This one came out a few years ago, but it uses the GTA engine and it's probably one of the best games ever made. Might want to check it out.

it is def addictive.. 4yrs ago when i lived in a different house than where i live now i couldnt NOt play when i got home and my wife was often pissed LOL.. we moved into our new home in 2010 and i was not able to get internet (yes seriously) until 3 months ago or so. since ive gotten internet i thought id pick up where i left off, but to the contrary.. i enjoy playing time and again but i havent played in at least a month..

i love video games, always have.. maybe its just my age?? (38)

either way austin i seriously suggest getting a system and playing. it wont take you long to pick up, the controllers are configured with user friendliness in mind.. i used to be a playstation person, but since getting the xbox 360 i have converted..

the headset u want is turtle beach.. they have wireless (what i have) and it was like 100bucks or so.. the console was like 2-300 i cant remember.. honkey kong had good advice about getting a used one if u get one now as xbox releases a lot of new stuff in november and i havent checked but would guess thats when theyre releasing the new xbox console..

    November.. as said above

Its actually not a mod chip you reprogram the firmware in the dvd drive that checks the disk to see if they are genuine most people dont use mod chips anymore unless you wanna back up the games to an external but most people flash because you can go online with the games without fear.

I was so ridiculous in COD. I logged in close to 40 days on that game. Yes I know thats pathetic.

I was able to jump spin in a circle and snipe people. Thats when I knew it was getting pretty bad. I was that guy you would shoot form behind and hit his leg and would turn around and shot you in the head.

I was always an avid gamer. However, Everquest ended my gaming career. I played during its golden era (circa 2000) and no other MMORPG has even come close in terms of immersiveness. It was nicknamed 'Evercrack' and 'NeveRest' for a good reason. What other MMO have documentaries been made about!? Many of the mechanics that this game founded and/or pioneered are still in use today.

By today's standards, the (original) graphics are shit, but when it launched in 1999, it was the very first full 3D MMORPG, and the world was HUGE. It's the only game that can literally give me a frog in my throat, the nostalgia is SO strong. I am still friends today with people I played with then, guildmates, etc. I have seen people meet in that game, become couples, and end up getting married. Pure awesomeness (or uberness, as it was said in game!).

PS - can somebody show me how to embed videos here? The embed codes provided by Youtube don't ever work for me.

I loved Team Fortress Classic. I started a clan and we got to OGL (online gaming league) platinum. The #1 gaming clan for that game.....

I invested so much time into it and had a blast doing it. Sooooo many sleepless nights.

My favourite genre of gaming is easily fighters, games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Virtua Fighter.....I played the Hell out of those games in the 90's. Then I sort of quit games.

Around 2004 I got into a series that ended up being my favourite games ever called "Dawn of War", which was a futuristic war/strategy game where you had to build up your armies and basically anihilate the opponent.

What does amaze me about games today, is the CGI intros. I mean they are as good as anything you'll see in a PIXAR movie. For example:
