Interesting night at work
Well some know im a chef. I as standing in the kitchen when a server came around the corner yelling at me they needed me to do Heimlich on a customer.
I ran over to the table find ma on the floor and one guy with his finger down the man throat and someone doing half assed compressions. Told them we need to get him up, as I was picking him up, another manager said there was another customer here that was a doctor. So I pcked him up, and the doctor started preforming the Heimlich....im yelling at the guy to breath and try to spit...as im trying to un clog his throat with my fngers. We then have a valet that's a paramedic, he came in and we drop him to the ground and he started chet compressions again...as im holding his head trying to clear his throat, I here behind me "dad please breath". Find out the guy was there with his wife and son for his BDAY . By this time first person to arrive was a cop with the "shock treatment" sorry cant spellthe proper word lol. She shcked him twice right there...no response...paramedics came and got him on the gurney and took him away. We found out he is in stable condition. And that he actually had a stroke and wasn't choking on his steak. Which means we could have done more damaged then good but we didn't know.
Now as amazing as this story is, there was a table in the area of where this happened, they actually had the nerve to say they wanted to change tables during the process, that it was their anniversary and that this situation ruined their experience, and we ended up paying for their dinner that night. And also another server came to me later saying that t his party he had 3 doctors that stood and watched, saying hat they could not do anything due to the fact that they could be sued. These f--king people amaze me.....pretty damn sad.

Thankfully the guy is stable.
What special ingredient did you add to the anniversary dinner? Something toxic I hope.

Where i come from, if a doctor refuses to give emergency treatment to a patient in critical condition, he could lose his licence.
But you mentioned there was a doctor and a paramedic helping you, why didn't any of them check his airway or breathing first?

I would suggest CPR training for all employees and having an AED on site.

Doc did check breathing, when paramedic came, he was not breathing then either, and he started compression right away.
We talked about it and are going to get a class together. I thought aed ad to be in every building but maybe depends on state laws.
I wish I could have cape trust me.

Some people (far to many) only think about themselves. Hopefully Karma will catch up to them and when they are in a situation of need the will find out what it is like.
Several years ago we had a guy at work who had a stroke. He walked by the table the safety monitor was working and myself. The safety monitor asked him something and they just laughed because he mumbled his response. I barely heard him because it was noisy and I was on the other side of the work table. I did catch it didnt sound right so I approached him and asked him something else. Automatically I knew what it was. I dont know how or why but I knew.
I told the safety monitor to call the onsite paramedics while I took the guy over to the supervisors desk and talked to him until the paramedics got there. They almost didnt believe me until they finally examined him. idiots.
He ended up being OK and recovered but retired.

In most states there are laws on the book which protect good samaritans from being sued for rendering aid, it includes doctors.

Wow. Really amazing. Good for you for interjecting. Those doctors should be ashamed of themselves.
On a lighter note... What happened to the rest of the steak?~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~

You know what I dont care if they do honestly. At the moment of thinking he was dying in my arms was horrific, and then knowing they were watching was horrible.
We were packed at this time and its amazing on how many people didnt do anything.
The wife on her way out was worried about paying thw bill also I heard

Great job stepping up & helping someone in need Sfl80. You helped save another mans life.
As for the clowns that just sat there & did nothing, I've seen it countless times during my career. It sickens me every time I see people that care more about getting sued, having their dinner interrupted or God forbid they get blood on their shirt. They're lowers than shark shit on the ocean floor in my book.Last edited by EverettCD; 09-11-2013 at 08:02 PM.
