Mattress recomendations
I've gone through two beds in 5 years. One bed had all the springs on one side so you don't have to flip it. I had a dip on my side within 3 months. The one I'm on now was fvckin great for a while but now there's a dip and it gets worse every month. It's got the pillow top and all.
The memory foam ones have always felt uncomfortable to me. I prefer a soft mattress that stays cool. I just saw a commercial for the Dormeo Octaspring and it looks comfortable as shit. Anyone have experience with it?

Start having sex on the floor. It's easier on the springs.
I have tried the memory foam 2x. It feels great at first. after about 1 or 2 weeks ALL my joints start to hurt from not being able to move during the night. It took me 6 months to figure out what it was the 1st time. I was sure I had arthritis something fierce. 3 days after not sleeping on the memory foam I started feeling better.
What ever you get make sure you have at least a 30 day return policy.Last edited by lovbyts; 10-21-2013 at 11:26 PM.

Lmao yea that's not the problem..... I mean I do put some mileage on it but its not THAT. I'm usually standing on the side of the bed anyways

I have a cabin in Tahoe and didn't want to get spendy for a second place. I bought a cheap $300 buck firm matress and bought a not-so-cheap memory foam thing (200) and I'm happy. I won't spend a lot on a mattress again. This was about a year ago, so I'm not getting the joint discomfort y'all are.

I'm a cheap bastard I guess. For things like that what is considered HIGH end I tend to try to find someone who is selling one that is 1yr old or less due to xyz on Craigslist and has been kept in a cover so it's like new. I'm not squeamish like some people about sleeping on a bed someone else has or I would never stay in a hotel again.
I figure if I can get a 2k mattress for $200 that is like new why not?

The wife and I purchased Orderest mattress and box springs for the bed about 5 years ago or so. So far, it's held up well.....even with 2 mastiffs (approx.450#) sneaking up on the bed when we're gone.
Pretty sure Orderest isn't a top of the line brand by any means but it's served its' function.

My wife got me a new mattress not that long ago. Its great. It goes in our living room and you can even sit on it. I thinks its pronounced c o u c h or something like that. Its perfect just enough room for one.....and a cat.

You got that so backwards.... When there is an issue (way to often) my wife sleeps with the daughter or on the couch. Bed and bedroom is MINE... I dont go for that sleeping on the couch stuff.
In our new house she has 4 different rooms to choose from as well as a walk in closet the size of a small bedroom.

The only thing I don't like about my memory foam mattress is that I have to leave the AC running all night. Shit gets fvcking hot in there. I kind of want to get a waterbed, but I'd be too afraid of it springing a leak.

Hazard you are in luck with this issue. Just ask DSM as he goes through 2 a year as he can really put the mileage in on those babies. When he's done springs are popping out all over. So he knows which ones are the best for whatever positions you want to go through on them and which ones leave very little hash and stain marks behind. And I'm quite sure he would be available to go with you and test them out with you as well. He never played football but rumor has it he was crowned mattress back in junior high. But be ready to do more than count sheep if you do take him with you. Just don't let him give you his personal inner spring test or pillow top you.

Check out the Sleep Number memory foam series. We have slept on both types (memory foam and air) and found to many things we didn't like about both of them. Then we tried this type and it combines the best of both worlds. Perhaps the most comfy bed I have ever laid in. Unfortunately the hole in my wallet has prevented me from buying one yet so I cant speak on the long term feel.

thats what some people say but im a very hot natured person. i keep the a/c on 70 all year round and walk around the house with shorts and no shirt, meanwhile my wife is wearing sweats top and bottom.. (the daughter too). i never have a problem with the tempurpedic being hot.
i got the cloud supreme and it has channels in it that are designed to circulate body heat away from you, and they work. it is like being cradled in comfort and just a pleasure every time i climb into bed. sometimes i go to bed early (like last night) just so i can lie in my bed to watch tv..
they also have a 90 day trial period so u can test it out and if ur not satisfied u can return it. seems to me u cant lose with that.
i stayed with my mom a few months ago while my dad was in the hospital and after the second night i was waking up in pain in my shoulders and back. i told my mom i was gonna bring a matress from home and she ended up buying a tempurpedic cloud supreme for my dad.. needless to say i slept well the erest of the time i was there and he also loves it.
i used to think those people on tv were paid and full of shit they spoke so highly of the mattress, but im here to say 1000 nights slept on one they were telling the truth! dont be fooled by the insufficiency of imitations "memory foam tops" or knock off brand memory foam mattresses. get a tempurpedic.. fcuk the 1000$ or whatever u save.. it isnt worth it. i paid $3000 for my king size cloud supreme and it was worth every penny! i am a believer..

We had a duxiana bed that was awesome, but it had these component parts that would need replacing all the time (they did it for free). It was a PITA, but when those components were newish, the bed was amazing. We had it for ten years before we gave up on it (these are meant to last longer than conventional mattresses). I have a friend who has one of the cheaper ones without the components, and they love it. None of them are cheap, however.
Then we tried Hastens on a long holiday (a month), and I know they are expensive and supposed to be good quality, but that bed was only a year old and already had a good dip forming.
Then we bought a hand-made vi spring. They suggested we get a medium hardness, so we did. We were uncomfortable after a month, so they replaced it free for a soft, and it was good for awhile, but now I have a good quality memory foam topper on it, or else it is uncomfortable. I have to say their customer service was v good, though.
I thought the memory foam topper was supposed to be hot, but to me it isn't. I think when we bite the bullet and get a new one, it will either be tempur pedic, or the top of the range Ikea one, which I have several friends who swear by. And the Ikea one seems like a relatively cheap experiment, and I am pretty sure you have some time with Ikea to switch to a different one if you don't like the one you bought after sleeping on it for awhile.

I have a pocket sprung mattress with a thin layer of memory foam on top. It's amazingly comfortable. And not hot, I hate being hot in bed and I never have been.

We went with a Stearns & Foster this year and I couldn't be happier. It's not cheap (will run you over 1000.00) but do you really want to cheap out on a bed?

Ikea makes some of the worst (poorly constructed) furniture known to man. Would their beds be any better? I think not!
Ps: my wife loves the store and hates me for calling their stuff out for the garbage it is.. It does make a decent fire!

I completely agree. I only mentioned it because I've had about four friends (with enough money to buy anything they want) rave about the mattresses. People don't seem to talk about mattresses much, so four mentions struck me as statistically significant, and I will certainly have a look at them when we are ready to buy. :-) And really, at those prices, if you like them, but they don't last, you can just buy a new one every couple of years, or less.

I'm seriously and considering going back to a waterbed. The best sleep and best I ever felt was when I slept on a waterbed.
