FISH OIL and PROSTATE CANCER?? HMM...

at thanksgiving dinner today my dad asked me out of the blue if i took fish oil. i said that i did but i have not been very diligent with it as of late. he proceeded to tell me to stop taking it and that his doctor took him off the fish oil regimen he was on due to the fact that it increases ur likelihood of getting prostate cancer!

well u can imagine my surprise as fish oil has such a good reputation. well ive been pretty busy today and havent really done any research but did google it and found this article:

Fish Oil Linked to Prostate Cancer Risk

like i said im not trying to suggest this is absolute but just something ive heard and wanted to pass it on to yall. anyone else run into this yet??

Nonsensical theatrics. Study is flawful and has been debunked by many reputable sources...

so... i was at thanksgiving this year and my sister in law mentioned the same article that the op found. i've read the thread and austinite's link and it's clear that a causal relationship was not proven in the original study and that at most a correlation was observed.

although it could certainly be the case that fish oil supplementation was started after diagnosis of prostate cancer as mentioned in the examiner piece, the opposite can't be rejected outright. does anyone know of more recent studies that bear here?

I'm currently supplementing with 5-6g of fish oil a day and my dad did have prostate cancer... (so far, i'm clean)

At some point if it isn't one thing it's another thing.
Some doctors recommend certian things and others recommend other stuff.

I didn't hear about the cancer thing but I did hear about it causing artery inflammation. Would make sense because there are people taking to much. Fitness mags were saying it helps in fat loss if you take a certain amount and that amount is to much.
