Glad you brought this up Lunk. It seems that the Aussies wanting to protect the sanctity of marriage between the sexes over there are doing everything they can. I am behind them 100 percent! Why you may ask? Well I'll tell ya why. The divorce rate of married straight couples is hovering at 60%. Within 5 years or so at this rate, marriage will be all but gone as well as it's sanctity. Now then if they were to continue to allow gays to be covered in those unions so highly prized and greatly protected by the straight society over there, and marriage as we know it crumbles and dissolves beyond anything remotely recognized today, they would blame the destruction of marriage on allowing gays to be included in their marriage unions. So by reversing marriages of gays in Aussie land, they did their gays over there a huge favor. Now they will have only their narrow minded selves to blame for the dissolution of their marriage vows. For those open minded straight folk over there this is not towards you all, but rather those narrow minded, arrogant, self centered, spineless, gutless worms who think they are better than the rest. So it's one less thing they can blame the gays on over there. And really do gays truly want to be a part of a societal tradition that is rapidly self destructing anyhow? Not me. All I need is my prenuptials and I'm good to go.....

Easy now sholva. Your the one sounding arrogant there mate. No one is saying anyone is better than anyone all the high court is saying that the marrige act will not change. No one is stopping gays from marrying because they can still marry a person of opposite sex wich means there still just as equal as non gay people. The law of the land is the law for a reason some people dont like them but with out laws there chaos. Maybe its different were you are but in aus people feel strongly about the issue of gays marrying other gays. Its nothing to do with hate. I dont hate gay prople they dont bother me

It still probably sucks for those gays tho who got marrierd then had to get it annulled. I was watching tv last night and they were joking about if the gays should give there wedding presents back now.

Euro I threw in a disclaimer for you guys who are neutral or open about it all. Actually I worded it to get some responses from you all and it worked..lol but seriously I don't care either way. My only real concern in it all is for gays over there who wanted marriage so they can be seen as a legitimate relationship complete with all the rules and laws and protections granted married people. That is my issue. Lets say you are gay and with your mate for 35 years and he dies. With laws the way they now are on the books, all your mates material stuff IE the house, car, furniture, bank account joint or otherwise, that the two of you built up over the years of your relationship, can all go to his mother and father if still alive. Or others of his family if they so choose. That to me is not right at all. And another issue is what if he had a car wreck and was in a coma and his family hated you. Technically they could ban you from seeing him at the hospital since you are not a family member. And there are many more touchy things besides these that need to be figured out if gays are not allowed to be married or at least allowed protection laws for long term commitment couples. And this is not just for gays but for singles who shack up long term as well. Yes we can have papers drawn up to try to counteract these type of things but still it seems that families are able to find lawyers to overthrow those signed papers. By allowing gays to get married this would have solved a whole lot of those problems but now they are right back where they started from. I wonder if gays who marry over here in the states will be recognized as a married couple over in australia? As long as the rules are fair for all that is all I care. As for marriage well you straight guys can have it even though Hazard still wants us to experience the ole ball and chain feelings of it all. That's ok Haz I'll take your word for it that it isn't all it's cracked up to be...lol

You know what Sholv old buddy. I used to disagree with gay marriage and was not happy when our state made it legal. At the time I ASSUMED that the only real purpose was to take advantage of the health care benefits afforded to people who had family plans through their work. My opinion and views have changed a lot over the years and you last post really enlightens anyone who thought the way I initially did. I LOVE GAYS...

Gays people have the same rights as non gay people. Everyone is allowed to marry someone of the opposite sex . The australian prime ministers own sister is a gay and yet he still wont go back on his word and legalize it. You havento respect a polly who keeps his word.

Thats a good question tho. I dont think they will be recognized in aus.

Wait.....now your preoccupation with my derrière is starting to make sense!!!!! Just kidding buddy.

I'm with Haz. It doesn't bother me one bit! Heck, I'm on my third marriage and will likely drive the divorce rate up to 80% before I'm done screwing shit up!!!! Lol
