Quick Question
I had back surgery a little over a year ago, didn't do anything but rehab for 3 months and took norcos and somas. Took about a month off then slowly started getting back into the gym and doing pilates. Only took pain meds when needed but the last month or so I have been really trying to push myself working out and my back has been killing me. Mainly at night when I try to get to sleep.
Question is I really don't like taking norcos but they put me to sleep like nothing else, I have just suffered the last month or so but would it hurt me to take a couple before bed? In other words I have my diet perfect, training is coming along well, getting my gear together for my next cycle, would taking a couple pain pills at night hurt anything? And I won't be taking any orals or drinking on my cycle so not worried about my liver just mainly hurting my gains. At my age I don't have a lot of cycles left in me so I want to get as much out of this one as possible, just a long high test and tren cycle.
Thanks,
DD

I think you could become dependent relatively quickly. Do you have an addictive personality? Ibuprofen or naproxen doesn't do the trick?

Well that's the thing I took them the entite time I rehabed at Richmond Bone and Joint and when my doctory told me to start cutting back, now mind you I was only taking 2 every 6 to 8 hours, it was nothing to just quit taking them all togther. I did worry about getting addicted but nothing, and I read up on them and the horror stories but when I noticed I wasn't getting the same effect from taking just one I did start taking 2 at a time. Doc said that's fine, 1 is dosed for a normal 150 pound person and I am a little bigger than that so 2 was no problem. But I would get sick to the stomach, and if I took more than say 6 on any given day I would throw up. I don't really find the feeling from them that great, really don't understand how people get so addidicted to them, I read a pro base ball player was taking up to 70 a day, or you f***** kidding me??? If I try to take 3 I puke, and it's projectile, my body just doesn't like it.
I think it's just mental, my ex who teached pilates had a huge problem with me taking them at any time even the day after surgery, she just doesn't believe in pain meds and I understand what she meant, but man honestly I haven't slept over an hour at any given time in months. I have literally 2 months supply that I just stock piled since the pain management docs still say I should take them and I would really love to sleep all night.

Yeah, some people love them and eat them like candy, and then others don't like them at all. I don't know a lot about the details surrounding addiction but I seem to remember hearing somewhere that when you start getting nauseous from them you may want to revisit the dosage or that maybe you've been taking them for too long. Not positive though.
I had a friend who had back issues and took them for an extended period of time, and he would also get sick and throw up. I happened to be his supervisor at work at the time and I had to talk to him about it because he would just randomly puke throughout the day and started to eff up at work. It was prescription so I couldn't penalize him for it but I sent him home on an numerous occasions and it took him a while to get off of them.
How long do you expect the back pain from the surgery to last?

I would really try and keep it to a minimum for your health and because narcotics definitely don't help you put on muscle but if you're not getting hooked on them I don't think there's a problem.

You do need to sleep. No doubt about that. Sometimes a person doesn't realize they're addicted until they stop or try to stop. They may not get that buzz anymore and simply feel normal when taking pain meds. Stop for a day and see if your body starts screaming bloody hell at you
Good luck.

Have you tried melatonin? I guess that wouldn't help the pain waking you up in the middle of the night. But what about regular ibuprofen? No good?

Well I haven't taken any for at least a month, prior to that maybe 15 to 20 a month and of course thru rehab I took two every 6 or so hours.
So not addicted what so ever, haven't even had one since before December.
But yeah I agree I don't even take ibuprofen while on a cycle because of its anti inflammatorily effects.
Sitting at a desk all day doesn't help, my doc has told me numerous occasions you will most likely live the rest of your life on pain meds, just the nature of the beast. Well by girl, or ex now lol wasn't having it, and we are still very good friends so I respect her opinion on it, she took her time to do Pilates with me for almost 6 months. Medically I am fine, I don't do good mornings or squats anymore, don't do anything to stress my lower back but I am finally starting to go to failure and not "***** footing" around with my workouts so I am sure that is what is causing the cramping I am feeling.
I after re reading my posts I guess I just want someone to say it's ok, if you don't feel good take them and get a good nights rest. Nutrition wise I won't be affected at all and since I am still a week or so away from starting my cycle I guess I am just looking for someone to agree with me.
Thanks for your posts, appreciate it.

I didn't mean to imply that YOU were addicted. Just a general observation. And, if they help on really bad nights, then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Rusty I know you didn't and thanks for your advice....I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this as its a bit of a personal issue that I have never dealt with and the influence of my ex living a very healthy drug free lifestyle has been a huge factor....in fact one issue that attributed to our break up was my feelings towards gear and the fact I was going to do another cycle
Thank you Igifuno I appreciate your advice, I was hit by a drunk driver doing roughly 50 and I was at a dead stop waiting for the light to change. I hadn't posted it anywhere, and we went roughly a year with the injections and physical therapy before they decided fusing the discs would be best. It was an L3 and S1 fusion. Technically according to the doctors I am fine, but being so close to the sciatica each person will experience different levels of pain or discomfort. Given our lifestyles and the intensity of the workouts members of a forum of ours I guess I should expect just living in some pain.
Sad thing is, dude didn't have insurance and was here illegally.

I missed this question, well I was hoping none after a couple months but honestly even on the best days there is some discomfort. See I can't tell the doctors how hard I workout or that I will be doing a cycle, I have hinted to them that I like to workout hard and they also just say well be careful and don't overdo it, that can be taken a couple ways I guess.

I skipped the gym tonight for the first time in a couple months, last night I did legs which suck when you can't squat, will never be the same. This is what I did, simple.
6 sets leg extensions
6 sets leg curls
4 sets leg presses
I worked the quads and hams pretty hard, basically to failure, any thoughts on other exercises I could add to that wouldn't stress the lower back?
Waited for the seated calf press machine to be free for 30 minutes but this idiot just did bullshit set after set plus it was crazy packed so I planned on doing calves tonight, I will do them in the morning.

Man I'm really sorry that happened to you. Can't imagine.
I have no idea what to tell you about your thoughts on a cycle. On one hand, I think it may help, but on the other, if you injure yourself you could be on for a world of long term hurt.
MuscleInk, I'm sure will chime in soon. He's a doc and always has great input with medical questions/issues.

i had neck surgery about 9 months ago, I was taking pain meds for 9 months prior to the surgery. Allot more of them then you. I still take them when needed. I have no issues.
I also was able stop cold turkey when i decided i didnt want to take them anymore. Now i may go weeks with out taking one. Then pop a bunch in a few days if needed. If people can't tell your on steroids then your doing them wrong

People who feel nausea from them have just started or are taking too much when upping the dose. I live in SW Florida; which is the pain killer capital of the world. If you can get off them, do it. What ends up happening is your needed dosage will exceed what you are prescribed, then you will end up buying them illegally; which can get you in so much trouble. The best case scenario will be to get on Methadone, which has its own problems. Pain meds are intended for short periods of time and if taken too long you will become addicted. It doesn't matter what anyone says. Its like smoking, no one likes there first smoke, but after a while they become difficult to stop. You may deal with some pain, but it will not compare to having to give them up someday with a full blown addiction. There is a lot of money in it and docs can charge a few hundred bucks just to write a script; and do. I think many docs in Florida should be in jail for how much they make at drug addicts expenses. If you cant sleep switch to Zquil. It is like Niquil but for when you want to sleep and has nothing to do with having a cold. Good luck man but try to get away from that sh!t. Just two weeks ago a buddy of mine who is hooked on that crap was shot and killed in his own home because another addict knew he had some pills and killed him for what turned out to be two pills. I see this stuff all the time and know more people that have had there otherwise normal lives totally screwed by the crap. It serves a purpose which is short term pain relief. But it will quickly turn into an addiction and then the real problems begin.
