    Black Tie Event

    Hey all,
My apologies for not spending much time on here and really getting to know some of you.

The company I work for has been nominated to receive an award up in Washington DC and I have been invited to attend a black tie dinner and ceremony. I have never been to anything like this before. Does anyone have any recommendation on where to get a decent tux? Also, I began looking into tuxedos and there are many variations to choose from. Thanks for the help!

You do not necessarily have to wear a black tie, but a tux is necessasary. I would just go to the Mens warehouse like trikydik said. Women are more lucky as they can wear about anything. But, every black tie event at least a tux was required. Good luck and have fun.

Agreed with the tux....Remember as far a tux goes the only acceptable color is black, and your white shirt should not have any frills.

Umm rent one. Unless this is going to be reoccurring it's not worth it to buy one. Off the rack sucks for big fit people and rental houses most likely won't alter unless it's a higher class tux rental place. Also if you're not the main attraction it's not paramount to have the tux fitted. However I ALWAYS feel better when nice clothes actually fit.

If you do go the purchase route can't go wrong with a classic double breasted narrow lapels. Looks slick and will never look dated.

Eat meticulous, train ridiculous for best results.

Rental. Tux styles change. By the time u are likely to wear again, style will have changed. Men's suit styles change between buttons, lapels, pants, cuffs/no cuffs. Almost as much as female trends.

If u decide to buy, can get different shirt styles and vest and ties to change up the look. Accessorize .

    Congrats on your recognition!

Thank you all for the advise. So I guess there are 3 different type of lapel styles, Peaked, Notched and Shawl. I'm definitely going with a bow-tie (not clip on), Still debating between rental and purchase. My initial thought was rental (I'm not doing this often if ever again) but then I read somewhere that you'll look better in a cheap, tailored tux rather than a rental. I think I'll look at both options to see what's available. I don't particularly want to wear a tux that some high school kid going to prom rented and puked on it. (not judging, some of us have been there years ago...good times)
