excellent job interview!
Can't sharenon Facebook, work will see it, but I'm fvckin excited about a job interview I CRUSHED today, going for elevator constructors apprenticeship thru a union (no union lambasting,I don't even know much about them anyhow lol) highlight was them saying I looked like I would NOT have a problem meeting the physical demands of the job...haha

Congrats bro! Union construction can be some of the best paid jobs. I am a firm believe in unions, especially in this day and age when companies are looking to cut money left and right.

Oh boy.........brace yourselves, union arguments could be coming....should have just said elevator constructor :/

Lol...I don't think it's that serious. I have worked non-union jobs and gotten fvcked by the company, and I have worked union jobs and gotten fvcked by the union for making unrealistic demands that ended up screwing everyone. I favor unions however, my preference for unions is more directed to protection from unions against unfair or excessive discipline by the employer.

good job....elevator tech. is a good gig....I wonder if u have to wear those green big jumpsuits lol...
union is a good place to be for many reasons...as with anything there are downsides...but definitely the good outweighs the bad imo

82, my buddy is goatee sporting affliction t shirt eating kind of guy, and he definitely wears that at work so I don't think they make you wear those, unless the apprentices have to lol

Yea definitely good and bad sides, I'm cool with the elevator union I think, it's small and seems to not have much of the big type of trouble....and no mob Lolol

This is unfortunately a problem with unions. Coming from the military I would expect only the best from my employees. It sickens me when certain individuals use the union as a shield to protect them from the employer and allow them to get away with incompetence. My issue comes from supervisors that have a hardon for one particular employee, with no merit, and go after them with full force.

These guys made it clear that it's a specialty service and it pays handsomely, they all know everyone even if they haven't worked for them, they said they don't tolerate people ****ing around, but almost everyone there now had been there a while, and there's no one on the layoff list right now, idk I'm excited

Lol...I agree TR, I guess I didn't post that portion....the problem with these types of jobs is job security, I know the offer is the same for me as anyone else, same pay grade up to journeyman, same benefits package, you need to out shine everyone and hope they keep you around thru any layoffs, my career took a dump in 08, I did specialty floor restoration (carpet care like dye work and patch repairs, stretching, and disaster cleanup).it was awesome but in Florida it all went to crap. Now I'm employed obviously, but I've positioned myself at the company well enough that if the elevator thing didn't pan out then I would be able to go back. But I'm going thru I friend in the elevator industry who has been there 18 years, there's plenty of work they all say, but $hit happens

Congrats on the new job! Well soon to be. I'm in the union myself. You can't beat the pay and benefits. Like King said. There are some pretty lazy people. You can tell the union guys from the company guys for sure. I haven't been in long. Just under a year and I've seen some of the biggest pu$$ies I've ever seen. Standing by "their contract". The other day there was a box in their way which was easily moved. Instead of just moving it to the side so he could work. He just stood there for two hours until it got moved. It sounds like your a hard worker so I'm sure you'll do just fine! Around here you can wear what you want. As long as your wearing the recommended PPE for the job site

Unions are shi*. How can anyone actually think they can hold a company hostage and demand this and that? I use to work in mining/construction and its full of union scum. Its a absolute joke. I was on one job were the electricians were complaning that they were earning 4000$ a week in the hand. 4 grand a week and they said it was slavery we want 5 grand blah blah. Labour laws are fine but add unions into te mix and it just turn to shi*. All they do is justify there jobs and make people feel that they need them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Euro, this isn't a BIB style aus question but aren't the unions in Australasia notoriously bad to work with??
Hey pit, what do you do?

Euro my dad runs a machine shop and he said the union guys will try to muscle up and they won't do something, he said one time recently I recall that there was some big freaking cvnt that wouldn't do something, since he couldn't do fire him my dad said he was going to kick his ass, and the guy knew that everyone witnessing it would say he started it so he tucked his tail and did it....simple job, and the guy makes $60/hr, unbelievable

^^^^ unions anywere are bad to work with. The tail does not wag the dog. If people don't like it they should start there own company. Id rather get life in prison with beatings and savage rapes than be a union member. At least i would still be able to respect my self.

Well that sounds a bit preposterous lol I would not have opted for any union but the elevator constructors, if I even get the job, as I stated previously, it's small and there are not very many issues as I've heard been informed
