Music taste
So we all have a genre of music we prefer and a genre when don't like. But i'm sure there is at least one song in every genre that makes the exception. Just curious, what is a song you like in a genre you dont?

I can find some good in most any genre. Except Techno and nothing good has ever come of techno. No exceptions! Sorry techno lovers, but my opinion is the only correct one!

To you guys who say techno isn't music, listen to John Cage's 4:33. Most people don't "get it" when they listen to it until somebody tells them the context. Even then only few understand the music in it.

I like just about any music that causes an emotion of some kind. Different beats make me want to move. Heavy metal helps me release agression, etc. With that being said, Country music does absolutely nothing for me. I just cannot get into it.

The story to the 433 was John Cage found himself inside a state of the art soundproof room where the sound levels were so immeasurable that they were practically 0db. And you'd expect to hear silence in there, but when John was in there, he could hear his breathing, heartbeat and he kept hearing this buzzing sound that turned out to be the nervous system.
Anyways, so he was of the belief that sound was everywhere even in silence. And so the 433 expresses that idea. It's also different every time you hear it.
But then you get to the next point he was trying to make with that. What is music? And when you get down to it, it's just sound. So really every sound (or lack of sound) is music.
First time I heard this explanation, I was trying to argue it wasn't true. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought John Cage was right. Really started changing my eyes about musics that I didn't really like. Where I could just separate my taste from my ability to appreciate the musicianship of it.

Hate to be the odd ball here but you guys obviously haven't heard good "techno" there is like 40 different sub genres of electronica and making a track take just as much musical talent as any other genre. Obviously you aren't playing an instrument but you still have to construct a melodies and so on. Yes I will admit there is some damn terrible techno out there and its given it a bad name. also how it used to be heavily associated with gay people and for that reason most people wont give it a chance at all. And if you're hating on it just because you think its easy to make then that's the wrong reason. You have to remember that many of the most popular rock, pop, etc songs are just simple beats that constantly repeat through out the song any ways.
For me my least favorite is country, but I can appreciate the talent and some good lyrics. I just don't care for the energy I get from it. For me music is about how it make you feel and country just isn't my thing.
Mostly a fan of "techno" rock and metal and some times rap. mostly the older 90's stuff like pac and biggie and ditc. Eminem is good alsoLast edited by DAAS; 02-06-2014 at 03:15 AM.

I love listening to rap/rock when in the gym. Post workout I listen to something mellow, maybe James blunt.

No new country, or the Bruno Mars style high pitched croonings, or the whole depressed individuals in the Indie scene....metal, not judas priest metal, fvcking METAL, will always be my favorite...
Oh, and techno and such is not "easy" to make, it's just different, why should music be only on a string instrument or something? Mozart would be like wtf who is this Lamb of God, it's not 3 hours of musical genius, but it's damn technical! But for the record, techno dubsstep anything like it sucks, big time, it's just not simply "pressing buttons"that anyone could do

Yous are using techno in the wrong text, your refering to EDM, electronic dance music, techno is a subset of that. Btw, techno is awesome, so are all the other edm genres.
One genre that I don't like is country, but occasionally I'll hear a song with a nice beat I can get into.
