Boy if we are wanting to send a message to the USSR that gays should be allowed freedoms world wide and be secure against being harassed just because of who we are, then Johnny weir should have stayed in the Olympics as our American singles ice skater. Just him being there would have sent the message loud and clear as you can tell from the pics below. Hate him or love him, he was a really good skater even though he was extremely over the top flamboyant in all aspects of his life.
Update: Well johnny is going there as a supporter of the games so he will be there after all.
Johnny Weir's travel guide to Russia
Russia has had a hold on Johnny Weir since he was a boy. The two-time Olympic figure skater and current NBC analyst loves everything about the country: its language, its people, its history, its art, its culture - he even married a man whose family is from Russia.
So uhum....Let The Game's Begin! lol
So who better than the self-professed "American boy with a Russian soul" for tips on what to do and where to stay in his favorite country (as shared with USA TODAY Sports' Nancy Armour):
I'm glad America did not boycott the Olympics as it should not be a platform for politics IMO Even though I am for outing those countries who are discriminating against guys and girls whose crime was being born gay and lesbian through no fault of their own. And now even putting these people to death for it. Sounds a lot like Adolph Hitler. But again the Olympics is not the platform IMO for handling this.

True but we do tend to shove our beliefs and morals down others throats without taking into consideration their culture, beliefs or history.
Things like genocide of a ethnic group, race or gender should not be allowed anywhere even if it's disguised as a religions right or belief. That doesn't mean we should push equal rights between men and women as we think it should be on others. Our own views and practices of equal rights are screwed up, how can we enforce it on others?
As far as gay rights go, we took a LONG time to get where we are now and still have a long ways to go but just because we now think we are above all that we need to let other countries get there at their own pace.

I agree every country has different economy, morals, beliefs, religions, culture, upbringings etc etc. its just like the whole debate on here how people from the usa dont like a national health system but people from other countries do. Its just what you have grown up with and are use to.

How about we talk about the fact that Canada has more medals than the states and leave all the other stuff for another day

I tried to enjoy watching the opening ceremonies last night. But thanks to those fvcks at NBC constantly telling me how bad Russia and Putin are every 20 seconds, I really couldn't appreciate the show that they put on. And thank you NBC for pointing out that the ring didn't open at the right time (for the 100th time), none of us were aware of that.
I hope NBC loses their deal for the games after this. If I were Putin, I'd have shut their water and heat off in their rooms as payback.

Watching the womens speed skating here, it is a slow Sunday lol, but these skating suits they wear you would not want to be self concious lol

A friend of mine back in the mid/late 80s made a few of those suites. One was worn by a world record speed skater, Flying Floyd. He was also asked to make several sets for the Canadian downhill team but he never did.
He was an idiot when it came to business and priorities. I was actually the one who got him started making them as a business. I still have 2 or 3 of the downhill racing suits. I only wore them a couple of time when skiing up at Heavenly in Tahoe.

It would have been more cool if he wasnt such an idiot. He should be filthy rich by no instead of broke. We were actually supposed to go into business together. He started out making swim suits. He was really good at designing and sewing.
He wanted to borrow money one time to buy more material to make some cash. I knew I would never see it again if I loaned it to him so I made him a deal. I would loan him the money if he let me go into business with him and manage him. He agreed.
That night I showed him how we were going to make money. I took him to a strip club and called a couple of the girls over showing them samples of his swim suits. He had 5 orders before we left for $60 each. He said it each on took about $5 worth of material and 30 minutes to make.
I couldnt contact him for 4 days. When I did he said he didn't need my money because his parents gave him the money for his birthday. In all honesty he really didn't think he was screwing me over or doing anything wrong and I just shrugged it off because it was also my fault for showing him what to do before getting a contract made or anything.
He never made any real money. He would only make enough to get by week from week and then not do any work until hew was out of money.

Oh how quickly I think you would change your mind if it were Australians being discriminated and put to death in Russia and Africa, just for being Australians instead of gays. Sorry guys for the temporary hijack, I had to respond to this post in hopes of showing Euro the error of his thoughts on this. Now back to the Olympics!
