Cop Shoots Old Man After Mistaking His Cane For A Rifle

The old man was born in 1943 and released the next day from a South Carolina hospital. They sure made men tough back in those days.

WTF do these cops take a 90 day online cop class now days before they get their badge and gun? How many shootings do you hear about from a 80+ yr old man? How does a cane look like a gun??? Fvck me, it was obvious he was old and not walking good from the sh*ty video I could see. To many cops are trigger happy now days.

That's the worst part. He'll probably get paid leave and be back out there in no time. And in the civil suit, it sure won't be HIS money paying for HIS mistakes. Everyone knows where that money will come from.

I DO see the side of the cop though. I thought it was pretty much common sense to remain in the vehicle during a traffic stop. I have never once gotten out of the vehicle when I've been pulled over. Mainly because I wish not to be hit by other idiot drivers.

    PROBLEM IS
-cops are trained to Shoot First...ask questions Later.
-most cops are scared shit-less. The MF's are afraid when they suit up---and happy when they make it back to the base. That's one of the reason's why they shoot first.

Some Lawyer will probably get to sue the **** out of that department. The City will pay this old man 500k. The tax payers will pay for this Cops mistake.

CLEARLY, the old guy was moving very slow. Any Rookie could have takin him out at any moment. He should have waited to see what the old guy was grabbing. He probably had a hearing problem and WITH THE LOUD traffic zooming by, didn't hear anything the Cop was saying.

Problem is cops aren't trained to wait. If you think someone is pulling a gun then you shoot before he has a remote chance of shooting back. I sort of felt bad for the cop. You can hear in his voice he didn't mean to do what he did. Don't get me wrong I also feel bad for the old man but he should have known better. Never make any odd movements and if you are going to reach into the car at least first ask the cop.

I would feel bad for the cop too...BUT...this chit is happening too often....in too many towns all across the country. Cops are trained to look after themselves FIRST and then their so called Civilians.

If you think the Cop feels bad...imagine how the Old Man feels?
Imagine how YOU would feel if that was your Dad?

I have to agree with DSM on this.Sitting back in our chair it seems like a easy call. But pulling someone over on the side of the road they say is nerve racking to begin with. Then the guy reaches for something.Wat would you really do after working that job a few years?

the old man deserves to be shot...

....he could have been thinking of resisting arrest, or
....he may have hurt the popo man"s feelings.

we are, after all, simply subjects of a police state.

That son of a bitch had his blinker on for 10 miles.

    just kidding .. Sick humor.

The cop was made a bad mistake and sounds honestly upset . The cane was not even pointed at him. It's a good thing that cop can't shoot for shit.

I've actually done a lot of reserve work in the past and had some training and I must say that is horrible judgement by that officer. I could understand gun drawn down on him for exiting the vehicle reaching for an object but to start firing like that was overboard imho

I too was a deputy, and the last thing I'd do is shoot someone. I had a partner that literally ran from a guy who chased him with a knife, until he fell down and had no choice but to shoot him.

In all seriousness I understand where the cop was coming from. in 2002, I was military police working an entry checkpoint to a secured area. There was a metal detector there and a young guy tried walking through three times each time facing different directions and setting of the metal detector.

I noticed a large lump in his front pocket (jokes coming I'm sure) He took off at a slow jog going the other way of the check point. When i told him to stop as i chased him down he turned around and put his hand in his pocket.

Before he could remove it I had a 9mm 2 inches from his nose screaming at him to get on the ground.

Turns out the kid had a can of natural light in his pocket that he nearly got shot for.

The jobs not as easy as you might think

Yeah that was a stupid move on his part but it was pretty clear the old guy could hardly stand and even with the sh*tty video you could see it was not a gun and he was not acting aggressively or pointing it at him. You really dont hear many cases of an 80 yr old man shooting cops. I know, hind sight is always 20/20 but the cop was still far enough away and within the safety of his car. Obviously he panicked or he is a lousy shots due to all the dust flying up. Lucky the old guys wife didn't get hit.

If you cant lol at yourself you should not lol at anyone else.

I learned long time ago the easy way to stop someone from trying to put you down or make fun of you is to make a joke about yourself, it takes all the wind out of their sales then you can turn it around and they dont know what to say.

    ...Sad

Common Sense....is lacking in all areas of Society. Clearly the old dude was moving VERY SLOW and the Cop had plenty of protection. He could have waited 2 secs to see that it was a cane.

The old guy (with traffic and old age to deal with) probably, didn't realize that the Cop....was a danger to him and his elderly Wife.

    Nice work.

I have not watched the video but I will simply say, it's easy to play arm chair quarterback. The comment above about waiting 2 seconds...it doesn't always turn out well when you hesitate.....even for a second.

The quality of people has gone down in the world. Its not like a cop is a great paying job. I know in some areas it can be good but for the most part does anyone expect all police officers to be 100% qualified?

Then throw in the bullied effect on most of them who are probably scared with itchy trigger fingers. Thats why all these problems are popping up every where.
