Whats really scary is someone wants to shoot someone bc they have their beverage on someone elses car. He should have shot him in the head and finished the job. Now we have another loser taking up 30k a year in tax paying dollars. He has no value for human life he does not deserve to live his own.....

I lived in a country where blokes would just walk in a restaurant and start shooting. Lost some friends that way...

....now, if someone besides the bad guys had a gun, maybe my friends would not have been killed?

I live in a country where only a small percentage of cops have guns, and the same for the bad guys. Mostly the bad guys just shoot other bad guys. Much better way for a society to be.

    we can look at that.

my mom carries. she won't pull out her piece unless she has to (she's never had to). And she's not a terrible shot, either.

most of the people I know are fairly well trained. and where the incident occurred, they were all very well trained. missing at very close range seems improbable

and finally, considering most of the people in the restaurant were shot and killed, I firmly believe allowing others to carry besides the bad guy is the preferred scenerio

IDK, I'm not into guns so. But I would think being good at the range would be different then under the stress of an actual shooting with moving targets. I've been in a night club with a shooting. People freak and are running. I honestly don't know if I want another person firing too.

    well, I know.

if someone is shooting at me....

....I'd rather be able to shoot back, instead of being a sitting duck.

I'm not saying allow everyone to carry concealed. I'm saying, for those that do have the license, they need proper training.

usually people who carry guns are good shot to begin with. if you have a gun most likely you've done some practice.

Practice at a range or in your backyard is vastly different than when someone is firing back or there are moving targets and/or innocents in the line of fire.

Edit* and the assumption that you're a good shot usually if you carry a gun is ludicrous. How many innocent ppl are shot by stray bullets each year? How many cops hit innocent ppl? How many soldiers manage to hit their own?

that makes sense. the people I know who carry are comfortable with it. And they are comfortable with it as they have the training to back it up. There are other people not comfortable with it mentioned above, and that's cool. they don't have to carry. not everyone does. But we need enough people trained and carrying so that the bad guy won't know who is and who is not carrying. And if they are unsure, then maybe they will not commit the crime.

I think a good number (something I pulled out of my hat) would be in the 5 to 10 percent range who carry. In a crowd, that is a significant number, enough to take out a small handful of guys with bad manners and ill intentions, harming others.

You know, in fact, I DON'T want everyone to carry. If someone is afraid of the weapon, then they should not carry.

Funny thing. I don't know if it's true today, but it was true when I was in the military 30 years ago. In Switzerland, the government actually issues weapons to ALL citizens, and you are expected to train and defend your country. it is a militia based society, and with all the guns, at least when I traveled there, was a very peaceful society.

there has to be a better solution to the problem the 5-10% of the population being armed to protect us from each other. That is a sad society.

It's a necessary evil though. Otherwise only the bad guys have guns, then what? There can never be enough police to solve it. Hell, look at Chicago with some of the strictest gun laws in the country and what occurred there over the holiday weekend. 82 shot, 14 killed. One incident involved a group of people (including a marine) leaving a party. They came out to find a bottle on their car and asked a nearby group if it was theirs. Argument ensued, thug from group entered a home and came out with a gun and began firing hitting a female twice in the process. The marine pulled his legal CCW and shot the ahole twice ending the incident. A year ago he would not have been allowed to carry a weapon. Chalk one up for the good guys.

True. I don't have a CCW (yet) but have 23 guns. I'd like to have my CCW, BUT, I believe drawing a firearm escalates a situation and should be the last option, not first.

I certainly don't want to be the hand that takes a life, however if my children or wife were threatened bodily harm or death, I would most certainly protect them and with a firearm if necessary.

I think the Founders felt strongly enough to make bearing arms a supreme right for every citizen in this country. This is one of the many checks and balances written in to our constitution - to try and prevent a tyrannical government from usurping too much power. The Founders also continued by writing the 3rd Amendment which restricts government from having soldiers living in private citizens homes without their consent. Had they NOT written these amendments into our constitution, I firmly believe our country would be a much different place.

Or would we be a country? And not a territory of Great Brittan? If it were not for citizens bearing arms, would we really be "The United States"?

But what does the right to bear arms to protect the citizens from a tyrannical government have anything to do with protecting those same citizens from other citizens? The bad guys in these examples is another human, not an entity.

I think that's Gixxerboy's point though Kel, that this is a sad society that we need to arm the population to protect us. It Being a necessary evil is debatable but you can't debate the fact that it's sad nonetheless that we need to take a life to spare a life....at least IMO. Humans are a cursed species; we're too smart (too stupid) for our own good. My $.02

that's why all the restrictive gun laws, they are working their way to confiscation. we have a president that is going around congress to do whatever he likes, and taking over private institutions, and people praise him! sing praise songs to him like they do for tyrants in other countries... I'd say we are headed that way my friend.
