Two surgeries at once help?
Hey guys, exactly 1 year ago today, i had a pilonidal abcess cut out, (big sucker near my arse crack). Was cut and drained and packed, all was fine up until a few months ago it returned but lucky all i needed was antibiotics and it went away, now i got a referal to a surgeon as my doctor told me, sooner or later whenever it may be the abscess will just keep returning unless i have it surgically removed(not just cut and drained again like i had) something about the whole skin area has to removed etc etc. Now im getting paranoid its going to return or start returning soon as the area is what i think a little tender, altho could all be in my head im not really sure. Im on holidays in 9 weeks time and the last thing i want is the abcess returing or giving me grief near that time.
Also i have an infected big toe, a long time ago i had surgery on both big toes for ingrown toenails, now my big toe on my left foot is somehow infected again, went to the doctor and got some antibiotics and they did nothing.
My questions are, instead of having 2 different dates and surgeries, what are the chances of these 2 incidents getting operated on together? Same day etc.?
Any input appreciated, cheers.

I have a friend who had a similar issue with her toe and antibiotics not doing anything to help. I will get the information from her and let you know because she ended up having to have her toe amputated but shouldn't have if they had diagnosed it properly.
Ill let you know as soon as I know.

lol ****, didnt realise we were still living in the early 1900s where amputated bodyparts had to come off because no medicine or surgery was around to fix it.
I did not know that they still amputated bodyparts, i would think nowdays they are able to fix whatever issue.
Im sure mine is not to that extent tho lol.

I don't know why the dang pilonidal cyst is always remedied with an incision the first time around. They always wait for it to come back to perform an excision. There's well over a 50% chance it will return. I would rather break an arm than go through a pilonidol cyst again. It's excruciating. And I generally laugh at people who complain about pain. Not this one, no way.

This is one of those rare cases I'm not joking about. I friend who is a nurse cut her toe over a year ago and got a mild infection. After several different rounds of stronger and stronger antibiotics they had to amputate her big toe a couple of months ago. She was still getting infections and finally a different doctor did a bone biopsy and found the problem that could have been taken care of easily if it had been detected in the 1st place.
It of course has been a big headache and quite distressing for her and I have followed it on her FB. I asked her for the details because I cant seem to find them on her timeline and should have some information either tonight or tomorrow.
Again, not joking in this case.

thanks mate.
But the surgeon told me, theres like 10 different types of surgeries that can be performed for the area, and none of them are guarenteed to last forever, but he is doing the one he thinks works best. I was supposed to start dieting on monday for my holiday in november, gives me 8 and a half weeks but now ill be in hospital for a little while to make sure im ok, im loosing time. Stressing out over everything!. Feel average to.

well guys, im back home, spent a night in the hospital.
Not in much pain, but my throat is killing me from where they stuck the tube to keep me breating thru the operation.
Now time to heal for a while, quite depleted cos i cant eat much but oh well, cant do much i guess. Been sleeping as much as i can lately.
Vomited about 4 times after the operation, wasnt pleasent.

You sure that was a breathing tube stuck down your throat? lol
Been there done that many times, the breathing tube that is.
They didnt give you any anti nausea medication? They always give me some but I have been lucky and never felt sick after surgery (around 20) except one time when they gave me gas and I started to feel sick just as I was knocked out.
Well hope you are feeling better and heal quickly.

lol lovebytes.
One last question guys,
after the surgery i was given cephalaxin(ANTIBIOTIC). But having this in the past it constipates me badly. So i would prefer not to use it, i have a box of augmentin sitting here can i use that instead?

Just a bump to this thread but now about 5 weeks after the operation the area where i had the excision for the pilonidal cyst is becoming a bit tender. Im paranoid it may be coming back, ive removed the hair around the area like my surgeon told me, but he also said he had to operate on a guy 3 times because it kept coming back. I pray its not. Its not causing me really any grief just when i sit or lie down its a tad tender. Nothing major tho.
Thoughts? Aust?
