Offensive comment?
Male colleague suggested I get quicker response from male team members bc I have physical attributes that give me an advantage. Brains, experience and professionalism not on his short list!!!
I thought it a cheap shot.
How would you suggest I should have responded?

I imagine it's fairly common put down with anyone in a protected class.
and I imagine it's common amongst the unemployed to scapegoat the illegal immigrants.
It's all about ignorance and egotism.
Personally, I'd just ignore the comment unless you want to invite a turf war.
Anyone that feels it necessary to "take from you" to make themselves feel good has issues.
Don't waste the energy.

There might be some truth to what he said, I don't know what's really going on there, but who cares anyways? Any advantage you can get over your colleagues is acceptable to exploit. The ends justify the means. If his moobs and receding hairline would give him an advantage, he wouldn't think twice to use them.
Just don't think of it as a cheap shot. Think of it as he's the loser trying to justify being the loser.

We could tell you a million things to tell back BUT, you're the only one that has the intel on what he is, his weaknesses, his strengths, and what your status is around the office. Obviously the best reply without lowering yourself too much would be to counteract with a low blow to one of his weaknesses in a way that would relate to whatever offensive remark he made of you. Any other way is just unprofessional and you will lose the upper hand with HR is the shit hits the fan.

Even though he didn't mean it as a compliment I would still take it as one.
Cause in reality some men are quicker to respond to something of a woman is involved. So he might not be completly wrong. But those men that are quicker to respond are doing it because there is some level of attraction whether physical or otherwise. Which is why I say take it as a compliment. So your doing something right.
Which could've been ur response. Simple and not agressive "sounds like I'm doing something right" or something to that extent.

Rub it in a little bit. It's the only thing you can do to irritate him while not crossing any professional lines.

I think you should use every advantage you have and not think twice about it. No matter what people want to wish for, we were not all created equal. Business is not preschool. Not everyone wins. You have a responsibility to yourself and your family to be successful. If being in shape and beautiful allows you to be more successful, so be it.

I appreciate the male insights and your comments. Many valid points and different perspectives. I could take the comment either positive or negative and I wasn't offended as much as surprised that he blurted it out as he h jesters to my breasts. I don't wear provocative clothes, short minis or plunging necklines to work.
He was shocked and raised an eyebrow when I changed into a maxi at work to met up with gf for a bday celebration after my shift. A bit more flesh was showing. ( edit. This occurred 3 months back).
I did respond to his remark. Something to the effect....we have different demographics and What works for you doesn't necessarily work for me!!! But in the end we both have to figure out how to get the best from all people with a bigLast edited by GirlyGymRat; 10-02-2014 at 09:03 PM.

Obviously to be successful you have to be talented and a hard worker, but from my experience this process is greatly accelerated if you're attractive, weather it be male or female. I'd also say that it is amplified even more for females.
The way he said it may have ticked you off but there is truth to it. It might not be the reason you're able to achieve what you do, but if you're attractive it definitely helped.

Personally I find these kinds of comments completely unacceptable. Seeing the shit my wife have had to go through getting to where she is you got to have some tough skin being a successful woman. It is not the 50's anymore for ****s sake.

Unprofessional in the workplace to say the least. Nothing changes unless you make people accountable for their inappropriate comments. He's just a colleague so advising him of such shouldnt make it a hostile situation for you...
